That is the State of the Nation. A reflection of where the people stand in the governance of the country.
For an idle Parliament either means an entirely satisfied people or an entirely disconnected, silenced populace.

All week long and today the US Congress has been in turmoil over the extension of the debt ceiling and the shut down of government leaving the Majority Speaker as the first casualty as the economic battle rages on between opposing ideologies.
Same thing in the British Parliament, active, present debates raging on.

While ours is as silent as a graveyard while the country drifts into uncharted waters, battered by a cost of living crises the depths of which have never been seen since independence.

And someone will come out to say that the country is doing well....
That her institutions are functional....
That democracy is working.....

One thing.
There is a way to move this country forward. But we are not remotely on that track.
I repeat. Countries are not developed in a democracy based on the thinking, the ideas, the wishes, the principles or the ways and means of one man called a President. It is the collective will and competencies of a whole nation that makes things work.

People in political office or elected government positions are there to do the will of the people. What leadership does is to aggregate these values and use them to organise society.

There is no plan, no policy, no program of importance that should go un-vetted and un-challenged. For its success depends on the nation agreeing to a large extent with it.

Thats why within 1999 and 2003 when Igbo were to produce the Senate President, Six different Igbo Senators became Senate President. They were not always satisfied with any of their Igbo Brother who emerge as Senate President.
