How Igbos Can Be As Great As China, South Korea & Taiwan by MrEverest(m): 10:55am On Oct 05, 2023 |
I'm surprised that Nigerians and even Igbos themselves can't see the latent greatness they have within them. If any black tribe/race can achieve global greatness, that would definitely be Igbos! The major reason why Nigeria is down, is because the Igbos are down.
I have studied how the Asian Tigers achieved greatness within a generation and I see parallels with the Igbos!
The first Asian nation to achieve greatness and first world status was Japan. They were followed in quick succession by South Korea, Singapore, China and Taiwan etc.
How were they able to do it? They did it through mass education, hardwork, perseverance, being ambitious, natural talent/skills and self confidence. Igbos have all these attributes more than any other group in Nigeria and perhaps Africa as a whole.
Already, Igbos have started on that path the Asians took years ago before they achieved greatness. But unfortunately, the Igbos are not intentional about it. Worse still, Nigeria keeps sabotaging them at every turn.
Regardless of the stumbling blocks against Igbos, they can still triumph and ultimately achieve greatness like the Asians if they become intentional about it and collectively pull in the same direction with determination.
Already, the potential is still there and the signs of what the Igbos can achieve, can be seen in the exploits they made during the Nigerian civil war between 1967 to 1970 when the rest of Africa was still in the dark. The Igbos refined their petroleum, converted passenger aircrafts to fighter jets, reconstructed/refitted damaged armoured vehicles, guns etc.
Today, anyone who goes to Aba or Nnewi and see what Igbos are doing with no support from government will shed tears for the Blackman. Igbos have what made China, South Korea, and Bangladesh what they are yet we can't see it.
Bangladesh economy is surviving on production of clothings and apparels. But in Aba, there are thousands of SME's doing exactly this! You can see them around Kent/Azikiwe road/Asa road/Ariaria and a few other clusters in Aba! Already, you can see them shipping their products to other parts of Nigeria and beyond. But they are yet to get to mass production levels that will enable them snatch the market from the Asians. In the same Aba, go to Ariaria/Bakassi areas and you will also see thousands of SME's producing different types of footwears, bags, and all kinds of leather products. They will pack them in huge bales for distribution to all parts of Nigeria and beyond. However, when you see the small shops and crude tools some of them are still using, you will feel sad. Such redundant tools can't help them to mass produce to the level they can compete with Asian products. Ordinary 2 million naira given to each of these people and 2 weeks training on how to import modern production tools/machines can go a long way in revolutionizing their production levels.
The world over, governments empower critical sectors of their economy for general good but in Nigeria, everything is done based on ethnic consideration/sentiments.
Take another trip to Nnewi and you will be shocked to discover that lots of motor parts used in Nigeria are actually manufactured here. There are thousands of people engaged in the production of brake pads, wipers, car batteries and up to car manufacturing. What they're doing in Nnewi is what China, South Korea and Taiwan did few years ago. Then people often mocked their products and called them inferior to the European, American or Japanese versions. But the government of these countries didn't relent. They continued encouraging them until they emerged as a force that can't be ignored or mocked again. Their finished products now compete favorably with the best from those countries that once looked down on them. If these producers in Nnewi are to enjoy the same support the Chinese and Koreans enjoyed, they would also emerge as a global force! Instead, we see some Nigerians trying so hard to sabotage their efforts. Let's take Innoson for instance, despite all the efforts he is making to survive and put Nigeria on the map of vehicle manufacturing countries, the government doesn't see any need to support him except buying a few of their products and doing press conference to show everyone how they're helping Innoson! This is not how the Asians helped their car brands to become what they are today. They protected them through policies such as placing tariffs on imported versions, giving them tax holidays, removing barriers to their imports and exports, introducing their products to other countries through bilateral engagements with other countries etc. There was a time Innoson helped the Nigerian air Force to fix their broken down equipment and I felt nostalgic! That's the sort of synergy that makes countries independent and great.
We need more of Aba and Nnewi to be replicated. Igbos need to place less emphasis on renting shops to sell imported goods. We can produce all these things we sell. In fact we are already doing so but it's still at rudimentary levels. It irritates me when everyone is focused on what to sell and not what to produce.
Igbos can easily increase output from Aba, Onitsha and Nnewi 10x and also create more of such production centers across Igboland. Luckily for us, we also control the supply and distribution chains. So, moving the finished products to the rest of Nigeria, West Africa and beyond won't be difficult, if we are intentional about it. Our GDP will skyrocket, unemployment will reduce, revenue generation will spike, inflation will reduce drastically, and ultimately balance of payments will be in our favour. 4 Likes |

My advice for the igbo community is to have a universal account and a well documented approach of taxing their brothers world wide of there drug money. To build Biafra So they can leave the lazy yoruba people that buys market from them alone And leave their peaceful land and go back to their erotion Quality and their warzone 3 Likes 2 Shares |

This alone can trigger a growth of an industry that ca employ 5 million igbos To be honest, Igbos really don't understand the potential they have. We have similarity in mindset, natural skills and brains, educational development, self believe and ambitious nature just like the Asians. But we lack the necessary leadership to streamline and give it a sense of direction. I understood that Barth Nnaji's Geometric Power plant in Aba was an intentional investment in collaboration with foreign agencies that assisted him. His plan is to provide 24/7 power supply to the thousands of SME's in the city. Barth Nnaji is an individual yet he is contributing so much while government at state and federal levels ignore. Aba alone supplies most of the footwears and clothings used in Nigeria. But they're struggling against cheaper Chinese imports. The Asians have the advantage because they're are leveraging low cost of production as well as economies of scale based on mass production. These are two disadvantages Igbo producers can overcome with funding and government assistance. 2 Likes |

this is not how they did it o It was through capitalism not sharing of money To useless Teachers Hard work or ambition doesn't work without a free market
. Already, Igbos have started on that path the Asians took years ago before they achieved greatness. But unfortunately, the Igbos are not intentional about it. Worse still, Nigeria keeps sabotaging them at every turn.

who is stumbling their intention?

clearly they don't have what made Brian tigers otherwise they would have a similar outcome
