Alleged EFCC raids: Lagos bizman contemplates suicide over N168m debt

They are not our operatives – EFCC declares

Chief Executive Officer of Lakers Lounge Hotel and Bar, Ikorodu, Lagos State, Oladimeji Ogunfolaju, has raised the alarm over constant raids of his hotel by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC , an action he said had paralysed his business and made him incur N168 million debt.

At the moment, Ogunfolaju said he was contemplating suicide over his inability to pay back loans he collected from the bank to run his hotel business.

The operatives as gathered, alleged that some internet fraudsters, otherwise called yahoo boys patronised the hotel and bar .

Narrating his ordeal to Saturday Vanguard, yesterday in Lagos ,Ogunfolaju , alleged that the EFCC operatives who claimed to have come from Abuja and Oyo state ,raided his hotel on three different occasions and arrested his employees and customers.

The latest raid, according to him, occurred on June 3,2023. He said , “ The June 3,2023 raid at Club Lakers, Ikorodu, was led by one SP Chris Odofin, from Abuja ,with a combined team from Ibadan, Oyo State.

The operatives arrested no fewer than 100 persons who were barmen, bouncers, chefs, waitresses and customers, among others and took them to Abuja. I spent millions of naira securing their release and bringing them back to Lagos.

“ The anti-graft agency first raided my business premises sometime in 2020 and the implication of the raid adversely affected my business. I was still struggling to overcome the challenge and financial losses incurred when the second raid happened in 2022.

“I have lost about N1 Billion in revenue due to these incessant raids by EFCC and other security operatives. I am in a serious financial crisis and customers no longer place trust in us in terms of their safety, they stopped coming to the business premises for patronage.”

Lamenting further, he said , “ I applied for a N168 million loan and was servicing the loan after the first raid when EFCC operatives raided the premises again in 2022. The raid brought colossal damage to my finances and I have not been able to service the loan which has accrued interests.

“The constant raids have soiled the image we have built over the years. I contemplated suicide because the thought of the loan repayment has been affecting me. The EFCC did injustice to me and my business, I am hurt.

“The most painful aspect is that the EFCC, despite identifying the officers, particularly one who led the illegal raid, have refused to be accountable. I want justice and compensation and I want President Bola Tinubu to curtail the excesses of the EFCC”., he appealed.

However , when the spokesman for the EFCC, Mr Dele Oyewale was contacted, he expressed doubt over the authenticity of identities of those who raided the hotel as EFCC operatives. .

He said , “ They are not EFCC operatives because EFCC operatives will not behave that way. We have a standard procedure of operation. But If he has proof , he should approach the EFCC by writing a petition to that effect and the matter will be addressed”.

That's how EFCC Behaves. Same behavior as SARS.

They act with above-the-law mentality causing great damage without any form of humanity in their souls.

They are as darkened as the criminals they go after.

I'm always careful whenever i spot their red vests to run and stay as far as possible. You can be in a crowd and EFCC officials will be chasing a suspect running and in a bid to use deadly force to stop the person running they wont mind shooting shots un crowded places just to terminate a person they have already decided for themselves as a criminal without due trial.

It would surprise many that the deadly force the agency uses is why many Nigerians flee the country never to return. Agents of Satan

Oga Tinubu cannot do anything for you. Do something to save yourself.

From the post no body has been indicted from the constant raids. There is a case (can't remember it now) in our jurisprudence about some guy that sued the police for constant harassment. Whenever a crime happened in his area the police would pick him first. He sued and won. It stopped.

So get an injunction from the courts first to restrain the raids. Then calculate what you've lost and with your loan documents slap the EFCC with general, special and exemplary damages. While you're in court with the EFCC they are legally estopped from touching you till the matter is functus officio.

But methinks this is the work of a rival pulling strings in the shadows.

This is bad, even the money these EFCC Officials recover from these people we don't know where it goes and we are not seeing the effect in the country.

This is appalling if all that is said here is true.
Our constitution is what it is today due to selfishness, there is a law for the lower class, middle class, upper class and no class still from the same constitution.

Hotel business is a good business which will see more patronage when customers can trust to be safe under your watch.

I understand that various people do come to the said hotel especially due to its location in Ikorodu, it is however out of point to lay siege, extort the owner at any time. Make your arrest, try the offenders and don't affect the business.

Who will pay for the damages done to the business now? Will the business be able to repay N168M without collecting another loan to service it?

Same zeal should be extended on other regions in the country and make a legal arrest, prosecution of offenders and stop the victimisation of innocent people and businesses.

So, if EFCC discovers that Yahoo boys
have been patronizing ShopRite or
NEXT™ Super markets, they will go to
these shopping centres and arrest the
staff and management❓❓❓

Under the Buhari administration, everybody
that had positions of authority were
just doing as they pleased, especially
that small boy EFCC so-called Chairman
who is still currently under arrest❗️❗️😡😡😡

Just same way Emefiele with his excesses
and the NNPC GMD that, Tinubu has
strangely refused to investigate.🤔🤔🤔🤔

Yahoo Boys and EFCC are the same. A yahoo Boys last year narrated to me how he had to relocate to another place because of EFCC.

He said once they know you are into fraud (yahoo), you Automatically become their atm. He said they can burst into your house in the middle of the night and drag you from your bed to the nearest atm and extort money from you.
He said even when you tell them you have stopped the evil act, they won't listen to you.
The guy Don run commot for naija early this year.

Model your business for corporate and international patronage, it might be long term but it works. You cannot recoup investment on those kind of project in ~5 years. Our Nigeria biz model is wrong, desperation quick profit destroy the society at large.

EFCC again?

Why did they keep denying their work?

Well I think is right time people will start fighting and possible killing them on sight since after their evil operation one man will sit in the office to deny them as being not their operatives.

Nigerians wake up and do the needful

#168M debt? No evidence.
But why will EFCC arrest workers of a registered business?
The man definitely has frenemies.

Wittyness.

No point in killing yourself over debt. If you can't pay it then file bankruptcy. The parties that lent you the money took a risk and lost if you can't pay them back. They charged interest knowing there's risk and alternative uses for the cash. Ask you lawyer if the EFCC can be sued for damages instead. It's better use if time than pondering death at least.

The man said he had to bailed his workers and bring them back to Lagos from Abuja. And the efcc spokesperson is asking for proof. Instead of inviting the man so they can start investigation with the information he will provide them with. They want proof first. How is this different from that hospital that said they need police report before treating that lady that died?
