Casual staff teacher flogged a student with a rod instead of

Is it life threatening?
If it's a mere injury, the student should be treated and let go or better still, the matter shld be settled out of court.
Teachers shld punish but not to the level of causing grievous bodily harm.
If they overlook discipline entirely, no place will be safe for u and I in the society due to high rate of juvenile delinquency.
Most parents fear to discipline their teens.And if, teachers follow suit, our society will become a hell for all.

The police on Tuesday arraigned a 43-year-old teacher, David Yusuf, in a Wuse Zone II Magistrates’ Court in Abuja for allegedly flogging a student of the Government Girls College, Kuje, FCT.

The defendant, who is said to be a casual staff of the college is charged with two counts of causing grievous harm without provocation and assault.

He pleaded not guilty.

The police prosecutor, Mr Edwin Inegbenoise, told the court that the case was transferred from the Kuje Divisional Police Headquarters to the Criminal Investigation Department, FCT, for further investigation.



Inegbenoise alleged that the nominal complainant, Henry Iortim, of Union Homes Estate, Kuje, reported the case at the police station.

The prosecutor said the complainant alleged that his 16-year-old daughter who is a student of the college was assaulted by the defendant on June 2.


He added that the defendant during night prep flogged the victim with an iron rod and inflicted injuries on her palm and other parts of her body.


He further said that the offences charged with contravened the provision of sections 241 and 326 of the Penal Code.

Magistrate Abdulmajid Oniyangi admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties in likes sum that must be residing within the jurisdiction of the court.

He ordered that the addresses of the sureties should be verified by the court’s registrar before the defendant would be released.

He adjourned the case until November 6 for a hearing and presentation of witnesses by the prosecuting counsel.

I barely get complaints from my kids or their teachers because I make them understand that their teachers want the best for them. My wife attended PTA meeting around the first week of resumption and experienced how a parent threatened to sue a teacher for telling her daughter to apologize to a girl for misplacing her writing materials. Her anger was that her child was accused of stealing, which she saw as destructive to her daughter's image.

No trained Teacher who passed through an Education program bagging either an NCE, B.ED or PGDE would use IRON to discipline a child

The title makes it look as if he was arrested just for flogging a female student. Even before opening the thread, I knew that wasn't the case cause flogging isn't prohibited in government collages, and the girl surely isn't the first student to be flogged there. He abused his power by inflicting injuries on the girl. No parents will take thar sitting. This is why I think flogging should be banned or, at least, be a reserved privilege for dedicated disciplinarians in schools who have the required training to do that. You shouldn't allow just anyone to hit children in the name of discipline. Some have anger issues while others are just wicked. It's unfair to leave our kids at the mercy of these people.

You're only saying this cause you were flogged while growing up, so the idea of not flogging kids sounds unfathomable or even foolish to you. You don't know any other way that could possibly better than the good old brain-resetting lashing that you received while growing up. But it's important to note that there are a lot of people out there that were not flogged as kids, but they turned out just well; even better than their counterparts who were flogged. That singular fact is enough to let you that there is, in fact, an alternative. And while I'm not criticizing you for your approach, I'm letting you know that those that don't hit thier kids are not necessarily deceiving themselves like you posited up there.
