Whether Fuel Subsidy is Back or Front is irrelevant. What matters is that fuel is being sold at ~N620 & the resultant inflation has caused unbearable hardship to Nigerians. 64 Likes 2 Shares |

Whatever a private organisation or a famous person accuses the government or its agency twice, just know it's true — but they'll deny initially until they can't deny anymore. Same accusation with Naira devaluation, but the government said it's a lie. Same thing with NDLEA and Mohbad, same with EFCC and Skales and so on. Just find a way to make money in Dollar, Pounds, Euros, and other currencies and you won't be bothered with all these hide-and-seek games. 57 Likes 9 Shares |

I don't understand what the obsession is with whether or not subsidy is being paid or not. It's quite obvious that with the deregulation of the naira and the current economic headwinds in the global market that international oil prices will continue to rise. Any responsible government will do everything to protect its citizens from such impact. All those who clamoured for removal of subsidy and applauded the deregulation of the naira, it's been over 4 months since the new government implemented these policies and so far things have only become worse instead of better. Inflation is at record high levels, unemployment is so bad that NBS had to redefine same and the naira is at all time low. External reserves have tanked and national debt has doubled. Right now it's hard to justify the way the subsidy was removed. If the status quo had been maintained till we were able to get the refineries running I believe things would have been better. All the trillions which was supposed to be saved from removing subsidy cannot be accounted for as there is no economic impact of these savings at all. As for the independent marketers, believe them at your peril. They are only after their interests not that of the masses. December is fast approaching and they have started creating artificial scarcity to maximise their illegal income during this period. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Akwamkpuruamu: Subsidy was removed at the time the landing cost was such that the pump price was circa N600. International oil prices have since gone up such that the pump price now should be N800. Somehow or the other the government have found a way to subsidize the difference between N600 and N800 because if they allowed the price to reflect the true market price of N800, you are the same people that are programmed to complain. bear in mind subsidy is now illegal. there is no law backing subsidies on petrol, it expired in June. Pump price before subsidy removal was N175, government was paying subsidy of N425 (600-175) on every litre of petrol. let us assume they are now subsidizing N200 (800-600) through the back door, the country is still better off N425 (previous subsidy) v N625 (subsidy today if subsidy was never removed v current subsidy (N200) which still leaves N425 available for roads, hospitals education etc that would have been burnt in the exhaust pipes of klandcruisers and lexus jeeps. its not like subsidy is back and yet they are charging users N600....no!!!! the subsidy from N175-600 that was removed remains removed but due to the rise in oil prices and the reality on the ground, the rise from N600 to N800 is being met by the government one way or another. 4 Likes |
