The Expendables series has always been a collection of action movie clichés, spiced up with some of the actors who made those clichés popular featuring.

That we went in expecting the usual generic action plot and clichés does not excuse that horrible execution.

Sure, we weren't expecting the movie to be great giving what we'd seen from the trailers and news surrounding it but we definitely didn't expect it to be that level of garbage.

First of, it's not a really bad movie o, but coming from Afolayan- it wasn't a big win as expected. The cinematography and camera lighting was perfect but the camera movements at times were rubbish; sometimes, I'll be like what was the purpose of moving the camera that way😏
The cuts i.e the editing to the next scene was so choppy- the scene and music in the next scene has not finished- they'll just move like something is pursuing them.
The acting was subpar esp from the adults. One Baba was just talking to himself throughout the time he was on set. The Chinese guy was the worst- I don't know why they brought a Chinese guy that can't speak English plus can't act again😂😭. Like no emotion on his face at all - he was so drab; anytime he talks- it's like he was speaking another language😭, even the children had confused faces. Most of the jokes were really funny but the Tecno joke was really funny to me because it was said by a really bad actor 😂😭.
The ending sef no make sense. What is stopping them from sharing the diamond in the first place; it's just a really flimsy excuse. Some story lines weren't finished. I think they were trying to tie Yoruba folklore to the story but did a really bad job doing it. The storyline of the pastor's child was squashed. Like what was the point of saying Japa Syndrome was not ok in the first place. Moral of the Story wasn't even complete😏

Statham stunts were good but it was palm oiled by bad acting from the rest of the "crew". But most of all was the visual effects 😂😂😂 heyyyyy- no VFX shot looked professional- gun shot bullet looked like they were coming from somewhere else but not the gun. Aeroplane and helicopters looked like what I'll do when I started learning blender😂.

I'm not sure anyone went into The Expendables 4 expecting something other than a generic action movie.

Most of the cast were bad and had terrible amateur acting. Some looked clueless the entire movie

The entire plot and mission was nonsensical...the writers didn't even bother to write up a compelling threat...they would just spew random nonsense and end it with something like "if he's not stopped, a lot of people will die"


However Jason Statham did enough to carry the movie to a 5-5.5/10 in my opinion...

Without the performance of Jason Statham, the movie is easily a 1/10...

The so called plot twist abi reveal sef at the end was something everyone could see a mile away...

Who would actually believe Stallone would just die and not resurrect and I already knew it was the director just by the looks

Sharing the diamond amongst themselves would only attract unwanted attention to the kids. People would start asking questions and one wrong answer, they'd implicate themselves and the Chinese guy. And as promised, the Chinese guy would come after them.

I am not Yoruba, but this was one of the very few Yoruba movies I enjoyed, despite having 90% of it's spoken language as Yoruba. Definitely not the best from Kunle Afolayan, but it was sure above average. The story was original, the sound tracks were lit, the cinematography was also very good.

Cinematography here meant how the scenes were lit and the quality of the cameras plus the color grading- the camera movements were not ok, there were times people were blocking the camera for no apparent reason. Movements of the camera should move the story forward in a way but it didn't in my opinion- there are times they'd have used a tracking shot instead of a closeup and there were times they were showing pictures of feet for no apparent reason
The Chinese could have been replaced with a real actor with emotions- the problem was the Chinese guy had no emotions on his face- bro just threatened to kill a 12 year old child and it was so drab 😂 if not for the music, I won't have even understood what he said and he wasn't even loud anytime he was speaking
No matter how short a movie every storyline must be made to have an apparent ending. The pastor's child part was not handled properly in my opinion
