Toiling away at a job you hate will not only leave you stressed out and dissatisfied with life, it could affect your chances at getting rich because you don't appreciate the outcome.

The wealthiest, most successful people pursue their passions, you should consider doing the same thing in your working days in life. Do what you have passion for, work is fun. Passion defeats education, intelligence, skills, and any other advantage those who lack passion might have in life.

Passion gives you the energy, persistence, and focus needed to overcome failures, mistakes, and rejection. It infuses you with a fanatical tenacity that makes it possible to overcome obstacles and pitfalls that block your path.

Spending more than you make is the fastest and surest road to financial breakdown.
You can't be earning a salary of 50 thousand naira and be driving a car that requires maintenance of 15 thousand naira monthly, it leaves you with 35 thousand naira salary. You have groceries and rent to pay the same month with other little things to do with money. What happened to saving ? What of pursuing opportunities that present themselves. Spending more than you earn and putting saving on your back creates long-term poverty.

Mostly importantly, continue to push! Life must be lived and curiosity must be kept alive. Never ever turn your back on life!!

Paying rents won't make you happy.

You think many people working in the Oil industry actually love the oilfield work?

It is done for the paycheck.

I currently work in a top firm in the industry as a young graduate and fairly compensated but I seriously do not like the team I'm assigned to. My team members are great but I do not see myself doing what we do in team in many years to come. Additionally, what the team does limits me to this same thing within the industry and the number of opportunities as a whole. The tasks are repetitive and not as technical like I would love. This demotivates me and does not make me actively develop myself in this field. I do not find joy in it. I have tried many times to switch teams but that did not work out for me. I work with members from the team I would like to join and I always wished I was in that team.

I'm determined to change this as early as possible as I believe this is the best time to take risk. I have decided that if I can't switch to my dream team, then I would have to find this dream in another firm (most likely smaller with lesser prestige but with opportunity to learn valuable skills). However, I am confused on if this is a wise decision.

I need your advice on this drastic decision I need to take.

Thank you all
It's worth it, in the long run your experience will be greatly rewarded and your motivation won't drop

What is the bigger issue here?

The nature of the job or the nature/work ethic of your colleagues
Thank you very much.. My colleagues are great. The issue is the work itself. I do not want a career that limits me to one industry (especially when there are only two major players alot of the professionals here aim to work at). I do not plan to resign, I'm just concerned if it wise to take a lower pay (in the event I secure one) to actually do what I love especially when it offers diverse career paths.

What is the essence of doing what you are passionate about and is koto paying you well or paying your dues...

I'm a microbiologist, and I love the job die, but it was not paying me, I had to switch to facility management, and is paying me well more than sitting in a lab or one industry that would be paying me 100k per month...

We all went to school, so that the certificate can give us edge to get paid well, so when the certificate is not serving it purpose, nah to jakapa to where will pay you well...

Shey nah passion go pay your bills ni?
The thing is, I need solid experience in this field I love, in a matter of 2-3 years, I won't be the same. It is a promising career that has worked (and working) for many seniors before me. I'm thinking about the long term. I also think the current bills are not as plenty as they would be in 3-5 years from now.

See man, whether u enjoy the team or not,the koko be say,if they salary is OK,enjoy it.

Is like u dont have responsibilities as in, no wife yet,no school fees yet?

No one is looking for a job to enjoy,I have a federal job that I hate but weting man go do. Accept the pay as it comes despites the fact that I hate it and hate the division I found myself but responsibility alone would not let me resign yet.

Think about this.

Do it for a year & drastically save some money as backup, if possible save 60% of your earnings. Delete or block black tax family members or people from your phone.

Then after a year, start looking for opportunities in your preferred field.

Bottom line is you need money to survive to do what you love!

Hello boss, I am a 200 lvl csc student student honestly I am at a crossroad, I want to start freelancing & earning tech money on freelance platforms like Upwork/Fiverr to help studies but I don't know what part is lucrative & easy for me to get in.

Also for career I also don't know what part of tech to focus on, we are currently being taught Java this semester & I am also side learning javascript, but I am just doing all this with no particular end goal.

Can you please advice me cause I have no information. 🤲

Depends, if the lower pay is still sufficient to take care of your family and there's a clear opportunity for growth then you can consider it, else, start being passionate about that job oh..... Street is not funny.

Depends what industry you are in, you can work a few more years while using your spare bucks to set up your private firm in your area of passion.

Then if you feel getting the needed experience to shot you up to the better paying job, I feel you should just remain there, and endure till you finally garner the experience and move...

Wish you success

I won't bore you with long talk but what I'd say is from experience.

You will hardly find a job role that you're happy doing. You will eventually get tired of the monotony, office politics and even your wages after a while. Why? It's simply because companies do not give 2 cents about you or your passions no matter how much they talk about their social values and how they value their employees. Companies only want employees that improve their profit figures.

You can't get it in business as well because your client is your boss and you'd do what they want or you'd run out of business.

You can only follow passion when you have so much you don't need to rely on anyone ever again. And how do you do that?

Make as much money as you can right from yesterday. The earlier you hit your monetary value where you can't go broke again, the better for you. Everyone has their idea of this sum but for me it's a million USD.

If you earn 10% of $1.2m every year by stuffing your money in a hedge fund or something, you can live comfortably anywhere in the world on a salary of $10,000 per month doing absolutely nothing but following your passion.

You can be well fed and still do what you love. How much food does a body need?

Imagine doing what you don't love in other to go on living, that's going on doing what you don't love.
Tomorrow is not certain, only this moment exist. Some people has never live.

My brada . Passion is a mirage. And it changes over time. Passion is too fickle to base your whole life on. You may not fulfill your passion most of the time because a lot is involved more than to just have Passion. Talk about tangible things like talent, work ethic, networks and how they commensurate with your passion.

Forget what the media and motivational speakers are feeding. The first and most important instinct of man is to survive. Food, shelter, clothing, reproduction... These are paramount and every other thing comes secondary.

So if your career is solely what is making you thrive and live completely as a human species, then you're not on the wrong track.

Count the number of people fulfilling their passions but are broke and miserable, hungry and sick and dead.

Survival first.
