The US President began his speech by saying, "We are facing a turning point in history" amid the ongoing war in Israel, and renewed his promise to return the American hostages held by Hamas to their country. He added: "As I have told the families of Americans held by Hamas, we are pursuing every avenue to bring their loved ones home, and as president, there is no higher priority for me than the safety of Americans held hostage." Biden's speech comes on the eve of the White House's request from Congress for $100 billion to provide aid to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, as well as resources for the US border with Mexico. In August, the Biden administration submitted a request to grant Ukraine $24.1 billion, but Congress failed to approve it due to disagreements over the debt ceiling crisis. It is noteworthy that American public opinion is not united regarding the conflicts.
