Factors such as the power consumption of the water pump machine (that is the size of the pump machine), frequency of use per month (that is, how many times the water pump machine is used per month) etc ...

However, since all the flat have their own meter, why did they decide to use your own and then pay you? ...

Why can't they use the meter of one of the other tenant and then you pay them the 1k? ...

consider these factors.

the power usage of the pump. (as this will enable you to determine consumption of unit based on the hour the pump was able to completly fill all the available tanks in the compound)

the tank that is needed to be filled by that pump. that is the volume.

how many times in a week do you guys normally pump water?

sit down and do all these calculations otherwise you will end up paying the bills yourself from your own units, remember month is 30/31 days.

You can discuss with your landlord and other tenants to get another meter, then he can minus from next rent if agreed. because you won't be able to calculate how much units you spent for pumping water since you are also using the same meter

I got this from a Whatsapp group, it contains a breakdown of the consumption of one unit. I believe it was gotten from IKEDC site though I've not checked to verify. It depends on the horsepower of the machine and how frequently you pump water a day. It takes around of one unit to pump water daily. One unit costs ₦49.50. Multiply that by 30, that's less than ₦1,500. it should be around 2,500 if it's a 2hp machine. Except you pump water at least 3 times a day, ₦5,000 is more than enough to pump water for a month

So in conclusion no body knows

Budget between N150 - N250 per hour of pumping operation.
Best approach is load token then pump it yourself and calculate kWh used per full tank pumping operation.

If your compound doesn't consume water much, you would even have enough credit/unit for yourself, 5k is fair...

I work as a facility manager and the consumption rate our pumping machine used to fill a 15000 GP tank is not more than 5kwh..

5kwh from our unit amount to N75/kwh

Which is 5×75 =N375

So if you are pumping your water like twice a aday you might tell them to include like N500 to it


I used my area band to calculate it, because our meter is a busness meter, the rate for residential would be different....

They better make it 1500 each to

We had that same issue in my compound sometimes back. We pump water every 2 days and I can confirm to you that N5000 token is ok for a month. We barely use 1kwa for every pumping.
Our Landlord later got a meter for the pumping Machine.

Our pumping machine pumps our 2KG tank for 40mins, it uses 0.40Kwa but aside that Shey you're aware there will be some times some fellow tenant will tell you story why they can't meet up with their part of the payment.

Don't allow that.... Or better buy another prepaid for the pumping of water. I av warned you.
