Yes in Hausa Aboki means friend but a lot Nigerians especially southerners use it as a way to insult or tease someone of northern extraction when we believe they are behaving foolishly.

Bashir on the otherhand lacks engagement skills for someone who claims he was a special adviser on communication. Boniface was obviously engaging in light hearted banter and he should have approached him from a point of wanting to let him know why the term Aboki could be misconstrued as an abuse instead of tagging NFF over what two grown adults could have discussed and resolved.

codemaniacs:

Agbero and Aboki are 2 different words with different meanings.

Agbero means thug while Aboki means friend.

If Hausas did not adopt arab naming customs and practiced Hausa naming customs there will Hausas bearing Aboki in their names.

Aboki is not an abusive term while Agbero is an abusive term.

the fact that bashir is interested in going after SE footballers means he is also on this thread and the way you respond to people is very similar to the way bashir responds to people so just use your real identity and stop hiding.

Southerners don't use it as a way to insult or tease northerners that's foolish thinking and a lie.

Some northerners in the south don't know how to speak english so they won't know you're talking to them unless you speak hausa.

About JS not having a reliable centre back pair, who is to blame? The woman selling akara on the street of Iyana Ipaja? Or the coach himself? How long did it take Keshi, Siasia and Rohr to find theirs?
It is a shame that the boys cannot string five passes together without losing the ball to the opponents even when they are are up against the most mediocre of teams on the continent.
The last time I watched a Nigerian team play some entertaining football was in 2016 during the Olympics. Yes, we may have few tactical problems here and there but can't we just play some decent football first? Most of the boys have been around for the past 3-5 years. Do they need to play together for a century to at least make the fans happy.
Each time I watch our boys play it looks like they just gathered some random boys from Ikorodu a day to the match. No understanding, no cohesion, just kick and run.
Pls try to give space or paragraphs on your posts for easy reading,

For me,I find it very difficult to read a long post without paragraphs.

In my opinion the tweet is definitely one that casts Hausa people as silly and stupid. The Aboki in the tweet seemed to stupidly misuse whatever it was because of his "low" IQ. I won't lie it's like one of those old jokes where we used to generalize thar Igbos and Ijebu people are stingy and hausas (Abokis) are dumb. I like Boniface but now his success has placed him on a high platform and it's part of the costs of success. It's Lonely at The Top!!

I think the aboki is used for those that used to push trucks around in the south buying and selling condemned parts. We call them iron condemn so I get his reference but then as funny and innocuous as the post seems we live in a time where people get offended over stereotypes so I feel once he has apologized I feel it's okay.

Because of one UCL Goal. Emeka, can you see your coach? Na so he dey reason. So na goal put Alhassan back on his radar and not the fact that the lad actually has certain traits and skillset that can help our middle game.
This is how he also doesn't know or haven't watched Atubolu before Oma Akatugba mentioned him to his ears.

If Alhassan didn't score vs Porto, we won't see such a headline.

Peseiro is funny.

When Sadiq Umar’s little daughter was not on hijab he came hard on him,so not surprised seeing him knocking Boniface post.

Bony was wrong and good that he took it down, meaning apologies but really surprised that someone like Bashir served in Buhari administration.
bashir, has an over bloated sense of self worth,
He believes he's the defender and keeper of the north.
Knowing fully well that notherners are very easy to decive when tribe or religion is involved, he lashes an rides on that to sway his ever ready army of northerners to attack anyone that goes against the north, no matter how little or insignificant the situation is

Truth is, while there may be a few reservations most yorubas will understand the context and will laugh about it. Yorubas are liberal at heart, it's why the extremities that exist in some part of the country won't find root in the west.

I think the term "Aboki" is used to address any lower class adult or child suspected to be from the northern part of Nigeria and beyond.

I can't say it's really derogatory depending on the context in which it is used.
Regarding what Boniface wrote on his social media handle, it's really light-hearted but could be easily misconstrued especially with the level of ethnic strife in Nigeria. I appreciate him for deleting it.

I don't like talking about political jobbers like Bashir Ahmad because there are more important things to do with time.

It's a term commonly used in calling and identifying a northerner, the Words are Mallam and Aboki,

It only the Rich and Elite Northerner that frown on that Aboki word

Aboki is a common enough word that people down south already know about it.

Asking them what they think the word means will give you a fair idea why some northerners find it offensive when southerners call them aboki.

the tweet does not cast Hausa people as silly or stupid that's just your toxic opinion.. some Hausas in the south buy spoilt fans or old metalic objects or if they see metal on the road they will pick it up and keep it in their big bags.

Those are not old jokes about igbos and Ijebus those are facts, Igbos are stingy that's one of the reasons they leave the South East and look for opportunities outside their region.
Ijebus and Ogun people are also stingy if they weren't stingy Ogun state will be more developed than it currently is.

Hausas allowed non-Hausa people called Fulanis to turn Hausa people against Hausa Kings and use their own Hausa hands to bring down their own Hausa Kingdoms and make themselves 2nd class people in their own territory that's a very dumb and dull thing to do.. Hausas are seen as dull because of their history with the fulanis.

Igbos are seen as dumb because they abolished regionalism that would have made the entire eastern Nigeria a powerhouse in Africa and globally.

Nigeria's GDP is $440b if regionalism was not abolished at least $368b will be from eastern Nigeria.

Yorubas are seen as dumb because they allow non-Yorubas become senators and hold powerful government positions in the SW.

the same way Yorubas would have been more dumb and dull to vote for Chinedu or a non-Yoruba to be Governor of Lagos or any SW state.

I heard such report but I cannot verify it. The point is Alhassan has always been a genuine midfield option alongside the likes of Onyedika and Nwakali for Jpes to look keenly at as upgrades and reinforcements for the middle.

Opportunity has finally seen him try Onyedika (a lad you dont rate) at CDM in a double pivot and we saw how he handled the role masterfully vs Mozambique.

Alhassan has similar quality rep but Peseiro finally decides to contact him fully only after his Goal in the UCL. I repeat... had alhassan not scored, we won't see such a headline whether Peseiro was there live or not.

Jpes doesn't do a good job monitoring enough of our players. Finito. I am just watching the man.

northerners hustling in the south can't find it offensive because they know that's how southerners identify them...

wealthy northerners in the north can find it offensive since they are in the comfort and luxury of their homes in the north and have highly paid government jobs unlike their counterparts in the south many of whom are also from Niger rep:ublic and are not northern Nigerians.

I agree none have so far been able to dislodge Omeruo, but that’s not because Kenneth is currently in good form. It’s just because they have not been able to show they are better..

chrisooblog:
Yes we should be praising Omeruo really because he was part of the backline that won an AFCON. He was also part of the backline that helped Nigeria qualify for the 2014 WC and get to the second round.

Our other CB need to step up.

Kenneth on the other hand has nothing else to prove.
