Nope Unilag is not overhyped.. infact, the institution lives up to its reputation and motto "in deed and in truth". You can't graduate from Unilag without having something upstairs.. the calibre of lecturers in Unilag will humble you.
While I was in the Faculty of Engineering, our Dean of Faculty was exceptional, a Prof. par excellence (heard he is now late).. We had other gurus like Prof. Mowete in Electrical and so many others, too numerous to mention.. who you wan raise shoulder for na?
There is one particular Don that taught me GEG 101, Engineering Mathematics in my first year who was working with NASA then.. Public Universities are still the best till tomorrow.

Don't let anyone deceive you, there are only two Universities in Nigeria... UNILAG and others.

Lagos State Should Seized the Opportunity with the German Leaders:
-This is where the Lagos State Government should have seized the opportunity to bring in the German Machinery- the Olaf Scholz to Alausa ,and discuss serious business together!
1.How can a Great Germany Personality flew from Abuja- just to Unilag alone,when there are various Business and Economic Development that needs to be met in Lagos State ,that we should have tapped into or may be he still going there,then this should be an addendum to lift Lagos up Higher!
2- What about 4th -Mainland Bridge - has it been Concluded now or is Julius Berger -(the Road Master Construction) not available again? The company JB- is from Germany!
3- What about the Ikorodu - Agbowa - Ejirin -Road-that is death trapped, that People are dying and suffering every day and thousands passes through this terrible Road every day and the complaints are defeafning?
4- What about Power generation - I once Suggested ,at least 10+ additional DISCOS - to the only 2- in Lagos - to bring transformation to the State. e g Epe Should have a Disco of their own, and Ikorodu should have her own too,etc!- You can Construct different Dams - here to generate -24/7 Constant -Lights and Create Millions of Employments to the People of Lagos state, unless there are other Powers, that is saying otherwise!
5- What about Different Agriculture Sector Development, Germany is self Sufficient in virtually ALL Sectors for a Country of over 80- Millions Germans!
6- What about New-Industries that can be established in Lagos-as the most Proximity to Europe, and is a home to over -22Millions People+ ,we need more Industries here! Just imagine the numbers of People coming to Lagos everyday!

You see, ignorance reigns supreme in the Nigeria space, no wonder the country is in it's present condition.

You are right about Mr. Scholz's unmindfulness about Unilag, but Nigerians still do not know why the German henchman is in Nigeria.

Germany is currently heaving under the weight of Nigeria's illegal aliens. These hard to deport asylum seekers are currently making a mess of Germany ruling coalition's alliance and the chance of the ruling SPD party in the next federal elections. They need to solve this problem once and for all.

The Bundesregierung need to present a workable solution to the asylum epidemic to defend against cynical political attacks from the center right CDU and the far right AfD.

Olaf Scholz is in Nigeria to secure Nigeria's cooperation towards deporting thousands of inadmissible, undocumented Nigeria asylum seekers, and he appears to be singing good songs in Tinubu's ears when he reponded that "they are Nigerians and are always welcomed back home".

Tinubu is in dire and urgent need of recognition by Western powers, they know it and are making to exploit his desperation before he settles and becomes resistant.

A Bundeskanzler is a very busy office and would ordinarily not come to walz around a Nigeria university whose world ranking is below a German polytechnic.
