Notice how all those countries are close to Europe or hot tourist destinations. Divorce is a western construct. We don't believe in divorce, if a man is tired of his wife or wants a different flavor all he has to do is marry a second wife. Our women don't believe in divorce because there's no certainty the next man she meets will be any better and she stays because of the children.

Naah, 4-5 out of those countries are Islamic countries, not really tourist destinations and they have nothing in common with Europeans.

Islamic laws support divorce more than any other society I have ever seen. It's under Islam that a man can decide to marry and divorce without consequences.

Go to Northern Nigeria and see how they marry little girls and divorce them anyhow...

Actually the rate of divorce in Northern Nigeria is so high Nigeria would have been on the list above but this has balanced it out with a very low divorce rate in the Middle Belt and south.

It's no surprise almost all the countries on the list are Muslim countries, cos Islamic divorce laws allows it to be done as much as possible. It's why a typical northerner might marry as many as more than 10 wives in his life time while not being married to more than 4 at a time

Divorce (in this context) means separating legally by a law court's pronouncement/judgement/ruling. Whether this is done through the court, Islamic way or by the customs of a particular people - it still connotes 'separation'.

Not being on the list is not necessarily a good thing. There are a lot of couples especially women who are suffering and smiling in marriages because Nigeria isn't a good place for a woman to divorce. They are enduring the marriages, and that's more torture than going your separate ways

My brother, I was thinking about the same thing. Though it is true that Africans go through many ceremonies before they hand their daughters over, Igbo go through other investment in their families before marriage.

For Yoruba and Igbo, families from both sides are more involved, making easy divorce difficult. So you are on point here.

What surprised me is divorce rate among those Berber and Arab countries because of their Muslim and Shariah laws. But then our Northern brothers, Fulani are not, carry foreign religions for head than their conquerors. I guess you can say the same about Southern Christians.

Most times it's the person that stand to loose the least if everything ends that initiates divorce. Men rarely speak of divorce because of the bolded while women do that often even when they don't actually mean it. But spending more in wedding has little to do with the longevity of the marriage, it is the personality of people in it that make it work.

Cases abound with expensive weddings even in the west you mentioned and most crumble after spending hundreds of thousands of dollars.

false. Igbos and yoruba self dey divorce regardless of money spent on wedding. Many times that wedding money na loan and it creates pressure and strain in the relationship till it collapses.

That's not completely true, Islam encourages counseling before divorce and in fact divorce laws are more favorable for women under Islam, your example is confusing religion with other factors like poverty. Did you know that any physical or mental abuse that can be proven gives the woman the right to seek divorce? Did you know promising the woman sweet sweet things and then marrying her failing to fulfill those promises is ground for divorce?

Did you know impotence is also ground for divorce and even infidelity? In fact any man that cannot provide for his family can be divorced under Islam, the problem where women become disadvantaged is the return of the dowry.
