I believe the fears of the chairman of the market shouldn't give way to undue speculation of the intention of the Local government.
In Lagos, all Market and parks are under purview of the Local government.
Alaba Market I believe should also be under the purview of the local government, there's a trend in Lagos that's affecting all the market.
I can mention more than 4 markets that have been demolished and reconstructed.
There's the market in Sangotedo bus stop, the market in ikotun that's being partially demolished and reconstructed, the Alade market in Ikeja, and the market in ile-epo before Abule-Egba.
The demolition and reconstruction of Alaba market shouldn't be seen through the prism of ethnicity, the Local government in Lagos are trying to increase their IGR by removing the old structures to give way to modern and more profitable buildings.
The Chairman of the market should negotiate with the Local government chairman to ensure all the old allotees in the market have their stalls whenever the reconstruction is completed.

One thing I like about the Hausa/Fulani is how they FIERCELY maintain their territorial integrity.

Dem no born Ibo well make dem tell Hausa what to do in their land (and the Igbo knows this)

We'll convert all of them to Amala joints.

I am very happy to know that one can't permanently own land in Lagos, the lease can only last for 99 years.
Everything will still later be reclaimed and their children and offsprings will be sent packing eventually grin grin grin

I don't like the fact that people just believe that it's only igbos in alaba, there are many Yorubas, Hausas and Other tribes doing business there too. The last closed down that happened in alaba it affected me and am not Igbo in anyway, I just want to do my business in peace.... It breaks my heart that it's harder to make money since from Buhari and many more challenges are still coming
Toor,I don't just understand those people

The mentality of an average IGBO man reeks ignorance and illiteracy. Like the above, he pointed out a couple of factors why he thinks they are disadvantaged but fails to reason why they all happen, fails to check the SUCCESS status before amalgamation and ain't thinking of preparatory plans EVEN IF THEY CARE TO LEAVE.
THAT'S why they clamour for AIRPORT until they built and realized their uselessness. Now, it's seaport. I hope OTTI build one as promised and I expect them to call on the AKWA IBOM governor to act on the approval his predecessor got to build a seaport too. Let's see where it leads you

kettykin:
Did you read what the poster posted before I replied him? If you don't have find a problem with his post then you have issues
I've gone through his comments (although not good enough) and also through your previous posts too and I think there's still naught in them to invalidate my last post. And please, don't see this as an attack but a platform to share knowledge.
Now to the bone of contention, WHAT YOU'RE ON AT OVER REPLICATION OF LAGOS MARKETS IN THE EAST (as you insinuated) WOULD'VE BEEN BENEFICIAL TO THE PEOPLE AND ENTIRE REGION FOR GENERATION IF ONLY IT WAS THAT EASY. BUT WHY CAN'T IT BE THAT EASY? Perhaps, I'd rather expantiate.
(1)YOU CAN HARDLY MOVE A MARKET UNLESS THE AUTHORITY DON'T WANT IT THERE. Market ain't just all about wares and shops but also many other factors. Infact, all these popular markets you mentioned have replica markets in Lagos itself let alone the entire country. What make them special is the VOLUME OF PATRONAGE. This is possible due to the purchasing power of the hosts, the neighbouring states, the neighbouring tribes and the neighbouring (West African)countries. If the Igbos move their wares but the locations they left still have the privilege of patronage, THEY BECOME THE LOSERS AS OTHER TRIBES would just take up the business and start profitting off the sweat of the IGBOS founders. The markets would only get new sellers but the PATRONAGE and VALUE continue.
(2)POPULARITY: I guess you already have a faint idea where I'm headed with this. All the markets you named would be the first locations of choice for consumers because they're the popular ones they know. Unless the markets don't have what consumers wanted (which would then necessitate the need to try another), they (those markets) will still remain SUCCESSFUL after you left while the ones the IGBOs must've gone to establish likely exist like the present REPLICA they already have on ground (. Look around you already have replica markets like those you mentioned in the east but not similar volume of patronage. Other tribes have too).
(3)PROXIMITY: The closeness to major consumers play key roles too. The markets you named are patronised by over 80% population of Lagos, Western Nigeria, and the rest rest 20% from others (Northerners, Easterners,SouthSoutherners, other WestAfricans) and many of them would first journey into Lagos which comes close than any other.
(4)POPULATION AND MULTI-SECTORIAL SUCCESS. LAGOS is a very successful state cum city in Africa and the most populous too. IT'S A MAJOR FORCE TO RECKON WITH ON ENTERTAINMENT, TECH, COMMERCE, BANKING, EDUCATION, TRANSPORTATION, COMMUNICATION, CONSTRUCTION, FASHION, CREATIVITY and what have you. Infact, in some it's the leading face of Africa and so, if it continue to remain relevant, it will continue to command huge population and improving purchasing power. I guess you already know what that means for the market structure.
(5) GOVERNMENT POLICIES : Lagos state government aims, policies and programmes are all geared towards creating avenues for enterprenuers to thrive in the state whatever your financial strenght while you arrived. Even the projects we're discussing about is to expand condusive commercial activities in the state. As long as the government maintain SUCCESS-ORIENTED policies, those markets would continue to exist and even get better.

THIS AIN'T ALL BUT I GUESS THIS SHOULD BE AN INSIGHT

Diversify Nigeria ports, foreign embassies etc from Lagos . Nobody will have any reason to stay or go to Lagos again.
I thought u ppl use to say lagos state make it revenue from the lock up shops at alaba😂😂😂😂 make una return to south east let's see if lagos will still be making huge revenues

The pressure on Lagos state is damn too much and unless the state exercises its sovereign right as a federating state, people who have no business living in Lagos would continue to troop in through night bus with their Ghana must bag to constitute a nuisance into the city.

Imagine the deplorable state of Alaba Rago and Alaba International until Fashola rescued the inhabitants by providing roads and cleaning up the area. Today, the place has resumed its filthy status as the traders indiscriminately mess up the entire area.

The indigene and the inhabitant particularly the Lasu students who are close to the market are prone to great danger of epidemic.

It is high time the Lagos master plan is looked into so development can take place.

A new standard market should be built to replace the shabby existing one in a new area.

Being politically correct has been the bane of Lagos owners, it is high time the Lagos government takes this bold step once and for all. We all see how Soludo demolished a shrine in Anambra yesterday without blinking an eye, SanwoOlu should surmount courage and do the needed
Nothing more to add.

Is it not time my people understand that they are not wanted again

Is it not better to change strategy

Look Eastward
Take your operations to the East, or any other part of Nigeria or go into African countries

The world is changing
Change strategies also

The earlier you guys understand this, the better for you

There is so much xenophobia going on that side and if you really like yourself better change strategy

There are boundless opportunities elsewhere be it at home in the East or any other location

But vacate where you are not wanted

I did this since 2019 and it was the best decision I made for myself

The kind of opportunities I discovered since I made that move is mind blowing

Take that challenge
Make that move

Leave your comfort zone
It's not a good place to be
You will be surprised what you will achieve
What you have been missing

Lol are the Igbos having any problem with the Northerners?

There are more igbos residing in the North than even Lagos

The last time there were even scuffle in the North was the bonke crusade of the 1990s in Kano
Which was a religious uprising

There has never been any other major scuffle
The other minor scuffle has been more between middle belt indegens and the fulanis which was prevalent in Plateau, Benue and Kaduna
Plus the bokoharam issue that's still religious crisis

The Igbo man have never had any problem with the Northerners except the 1966 issue before the war and the bonke crusade in the 1990s

Igbos have lived peacefully with the Northerners
The two parties under themselves

Actually he is right

Having a replica in other parts will even enhance the value chain and distribution network

That's one of Dangote's secret;
Sound distribution and value chain network
That's why he can afford to keep a higher price of his cement because his distribution network is many times superior to other cement manufacturers especially BUA

Commerce is actually changing

Having a replica will even empower the traders more.
If you understand trading and commerce by taking example from what the Chinese are doing around the world through trade and commerce and introduce it here in Nigeria
The traders will even be more served and not be under any witch hunting

One of the Igbo man's competitive advantage in Nigeria is Trading

Then they should maximize it because trade and commerce is the life blood of any Economy
