Nigeria should have thresholds on most of these organisations as a state, for instance there should be a handful number of different categories of banks and any new player should either by shares in any of the existing ones till they become the highest holder, or must have a very stringent standard for new players not just chunking out license anyhow.
This should be the standard for all crucial industrial and economical aspect of our nation.
To strengthen our industries and economy, not the current anyhow practice that allow for proxy launderers and plunderers.

I knew of Peak Merchant bank. The one time CEO, taught me in Unilag. His name was Mr. Holloway. His wife was an economics lecturer in Unilag.

There was a time a female student wore very flirty shorts to clas, probably to woo him. He codedly said he doesn't cheat on his wife and ensures his wife exercises.

He also told the class a joke.

He said when a girl is in her teens, and shes told a man is looking for her, she asks, "Is he tall? is he handsome?"

He said if the woman is In her 20s, she asks," what car does he drive? Does he have his own flat? What kind of job does he do?"

And when she's in her 30s, and the woman's hears a man is looking for her, she screams, "Where's the man, where the man!"

That was the first time I heard that joke but it stuck in my head

Sensational news headlines. I am not sure i have heard of any of those banks in existance in Nigeria before. Therefore, no bank has been liquidated by CBN as claimed.

I don't seem to have heard about these banks except for Allied Bank and Progress Bank. I knew that Progress Bank existed in Nigeria 1980s and later closed down. I am surprised to hear about it as a bank that has been in operation. I just hope these are not just ghost banks established for fraudulent and dubious activities.

Some of these banks were prime banks back then eg ICON Merchant bank. It was a subsidiary of NIDB (Nigerian Investment and Development Bank) owed by the federal government.

How much are you guys paying so that I'll tell you how things worked back then?

I lost quite some money in some of these banks. When money was money. I was an articled clerk (meaning trainee accountant) in accounting practice back then on 150 Broad street. My good friend Ms Patience Oniha (present DG Debt Management Office) was an investment analyst in ICON Merchant bank. She was always taking me out for lunch because she could pay with LV (luncheon voucher)

Yes we rolled back then with beautiful girls with brain not the present slay queens with nothing upstairs. We slept for years in the classroom in order to pass ICAN when ICAN was ICAN.

How do you know?

These banks went down over fifteen years ago.
Imagine NDIC just paying the insured amount that is not up to five hundred thousand naira no matter the millions you had there.
Some depositors would have died because of depression.

Some won't even know banks like Savannah, Society Generale, liberty, Allied, NAL , Habib , Standard trust etc once existed.
