larride:So her colleagues blaming LASG are also doing victim blaming too? The solution is either provide enough safey measures for them, or get them off the expressway. How you are interpretating it as victim blaming is doing my body somehow |

"Nigerian banker invests $500 million in new Lagos university" https://billionaires.africa/2023/11/10/nigerian-banker-invests-500-million-in-new-lagos-university/ In reality: Herbert Wigwe, Access Bank's CEO, invests $500 billion in build a university in Isiokpo, Rivers State which focuses on tech and emerging technologies, employing and interfacing with Silicon Valley and A-list U.S. universities experts. This is why you must aggressively push your narratives as nobody would do it for you. Even reporting it as Port Harcourt would send signals amongst investors that investments can be viable outside Lagos and Abuja, and Rivers can be one of such places. The Rivers Vanguard who are only reactive on this thread, for example, on the issues of vices would do better jobs pushing narratives like this. Tell your story! Imprint your place on the consciousness of people. Force them to recognise and acknowledge it or even get curious for all the right reasons, slowly but surely. |

DissTroy:Why not Abuja, at least? Well, i don't blame him. One cannot determine how bad this tribalism would rise to. Make person no go invest $500 million for somewhere else, and then you start hearing "Go back to your state" tomorrow. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by BlueRayDick: 2:26pm On Nov 13, 2023 |
izzou:I think he's from Rivers state, so it makes sense to invest in his home state. I saw a large billboard of the school when I was in Port Harcourt; It didn't even strike me the school has any connection with him until the driver mentioned it to me when I asked him who owns the school. I doubt the 500 million dollars tag in the story sha ... How much gan is Babcock and Convenant universities ![]() |

BlueRayDick:For a project like this, Isiokpo is not the best location for it. It makes sense to invest home. But there are projects that can be better located outside home. ![]() The project looks wide. Imagine luring Dangote and his like to mentor students. Maybe na exaggeration, but e go chop money But then, It is okay. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by DissTroy(m): 2:31pm On Nov 13, 2023 |
izzou:Exactly! That's why we must push the narratives of our individual states. That's why I push mine and wouldn't trade it for Lagos or Abuja. Nobody can deny me my citizen rights here or tell me to go back home. The lead-up to the 2023 elections should be a wake-up call. If governors can just ensure security, everyone should think of investing at home - real home without the inter-tribal prejudice. |

izzou:I just read the full news now from the link posted. He will be charging $12,500 for tuition fee and another annual fee of N3.5m. All because he intends to employ at least 30% of his teaching staff from UK & US ![]() The man just dey whine himself jare .... If my parent get that kind money I go swear for them if they carry me go one yeye Wigwe university instead of sending me to UK or US |

BlueRayDick:It depends oh. Let's hope it happens sha. He must have done his maths. I just feel that a more major city would be ideal for it, but then, with how Nigeria is, I cannot blame anybody for going into the bush to build anything |

Amoto94, here's a recent piece written in May this year by Benjamin Dada, one of the top 5 Nigerian tech blogs: "Northern Nigeria tech entrepreneurs want to revamp the startup ecosystem" https://www.benjamindada.com/northern-nigeria-startup-ecosystem/ . It states the same problems highlighted in the more recent Tech Cabal article I posted earlier on, and it also points out only Jos seems to be putting an effort like I posited. - Inadequate skilled persons and seeming unwillingness on all parts to grow human resources, and the extremely few which exist lacking the tenacity of their southern counterparts. I'd like to read up on the Northern startups you alluded are thriving. Just to grow my knowledgebase. There might be hidden gems we don't know about. Might. |

izzou:One man I admire for pulling that kind feat off is Afe Babalola; the baba was intentional about the university project and his past experience on the governing council of UNILAG played a huge role in the success of ABUAD. I don't know if Wigwe has it in him sha cos he's venturing into an already saturated market so he dey like Handicap 1 before game start |

izzou:with all the talk about instability and crime in rivers state, the man is taking a big gamble. converging the children of port harcourts upper class into a location is almost like setting up a goat to be fed to a lion for lunch. what is his security plan? not just for students but for the oyibos who i am sure can remember all the memes of oil white workers kidnapped by MEND back in the day

GloriousGbola:Probably he's targeting children of Expatriates resident in PH , Delta and other oil rich area of the South South. How many upper class people for PH go dey pay that kind fees yearly for naija school ? |

BlueRayDick:na wetin i dey talk. so if i am an aspiring kidnapper, i already know a place that my crew can storm get easy pickings of wealthy victims. izzou:security in Nigeria is ultimately an illusion. the best one can hope for is that wigwe will be paying protection money to the warlords who will keep their end of the bargain ibime can negotiate the the spend ![]() |

izzou:https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2021/4/26/nigeria-kidnappers-execute-two-more-captive-students i am sure you remember this story this was an expensive private university in kaduna your average oil expat goes around with multiple police and military escorts i am not sure Wigwes expensive private school will be able to afford oil worker levels of protection for teaching staff - if it comes to that. |

GloriousGbola:Baba, even Borno wey be headquarters of Boko Haram; UNIMAID students dey go about their studies without BH kidnapping them. Rivers is not even volatile to that level na. He would've settled the chiefs and lords when he's buying the land for the university and they will assure him of their support. They will surely protect the business of their son of the soil na |

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by GloriousGbola: 3:32pm On Nov 13, 2023 |
BlueRayDick:this is the point i am making. kidnapping has always been a low risk venture in Nigeria. the returns depend on the perceived value of your victims. kidnap a guy from rsust it is try your luck . victim can range from wealthy to someone dirt poor. you may even find you know the guy you are kidnapping, you are from the same hood, same struggle. what can the family drop? but a person whose parents are paying $12,000 and 3.5 million a year that is clearly a victim whose parents will pay BIG money . and you have a campus FULL of students like this. as long as you storm the place and you pick students - you know you have hammered. at which point it becomes low risk high reward. |

izzou:there is an estate in ikoyi called shoreline estate. a plot used to be 500m - it is now 2 billion. it is modelled on US suburbs. so no one is allowed to have any high fence. na all waist high fence. no generator allowed either . the claim is there is security . those of us working know that in the end if push comes to shove, there better be panic rooms in all those expensive houses. if there is an end sars style breakdown of law and order - they will find out the true state of their security really quickly. as per the school - na community go be support staff. cleaners , security etc. so there are already moles in waiting if it comes to that. |

https://www.nairaland.com/7909503/kogi-guber-election-apc-mocks this is some epic level trolling ![]() In a statement signed by the Osun APC chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, he also described Melaye’s defeat as the political demystification of Adeleke. Lawal explained that Adeleke inadvertently brought political misfortune to Kogi State, having been overestimated by the national leadership of the PDP, who appointed him as the campaign chairman. “It’s now evident that those who believed Adeleke possessed a tested election strategy, one that secured victories for him and his party in recent Osun elections, will realize that the upstart governor relied mainly on luck. He escaped consequences despite committing misconduct in those elections, leveraging compromised security agents and political tactics to manipulate the will of the electorate.dancing gomina don collect on behalf of dino atiku too suppose collect |

izzou:This was in 2017. I dont think much has changed since then. https://www.statista.com/statistics/1201528/number-of-crimes-in-nigeria-by-state/ I like what the man is doing, he built an access bank branch in Isiopko, one of the only two or three in the area. Trust the community, they ensured people from the community were also employed which is something. I've also been seeing several vacancies of jobs advertised by the school. Job opportunities for people in the state and beyond. As for the location, he must have done his homework. There's a reason he's the billionaire and we are not ![]() |
