Take for example OCamL, a huge reason why it's on this list is Jane Street and Bloomberg. Unfortunately, 90% of devs will not stand to gain much from learning a niche language like OCaml. It would be an obvious waste of time and it shows why these "highest paid language lists" are pointless.

Legacy systems as they are called. Those kinds of systems are not updated "anyhow". If they "break" the catastrophic consequences nobi here. I remember reading somewhere in NL where people were mocking Fortran as a dated old "useless" language. Fortran that will have an updated version released this 2023 is what some people were calling old and useless. If only they know where those "old" languages were used and how scarce (and highly paid) programmers in those languages are

You're right. The more important a tech skill, the more companies are willing to pay a hefty premium for those who’ve mastered it; but when enough people master it, companies no longer need to pay that premium, since there’s sufficient supply. Economics is always a factor.

That can be true in your case if you say so. Your background, education and environment can play a big role on how you view money and success.
Money can be a motivating factor but not the greatest factor. There are many reasons for that which I don't want to go into. I have worked with many people who never viewed money as their greatest motivator for this field. Money has never been the greatest factor for learning what I learnt.

Interesting. I only became aware of the language last year. The company I mentioned literally hires any one competent in Erlang that applies for their roles.

It’s funny you quoting me and at the same time, your comment shows you have seen couple of my comments on here.

I’m not here to give inspiration to anyone. Neither am I here to ginger anyone. Lots of ideas to build upon and from of the previous post on here we were pointing at some very few niches typical Nigerians would voluntarily pay for e.g betting, porn etc. I’m not here to market what I have worked on. This is not the right platform. I can’t be pointing them out, I don’t work for any organization neither. I am a self employed tech-prenuer. I didn’t learn tech out of passion or whatever folks call it lately, i learnt it for the money and to provide solutions people would voluntarily pay to use.


If I want advertise I have the right platforms to pay for that and the targeted audience (not Nigerians)

In short my bro, find a problem and provide aa solution and make money soft. Forget abt the tech jargons here and there. No tech company is out there to boast about their backend but the product they’ve got to offer.

It’s simple, think like a businessman than a tech enthusiast. Peace my bro.


N.B: you can be broke and build a product that would pay you millions, and I am talking from experience. Only if you know how much people make from Ads targeting US/UK/Canada and co.
