That's the mistake my parents made which I'll never make. My parents couldn't wait for me to balance well after my graduation as a healthcare professional before they unleashed there retirement agenda on me. I'm the first child among 5 siblings.
He was never serious as a businessman during his active time in business.
Now that the economy is not good and everyone is trying to manage vis-a-vis the inflation, I do pity him because I know I'm not doing enough.

Nigerian parents especially the poor ones are fund of that nonsense. Especially now that Nigeria is not predictable.

Parents should leave wealth that even their grand children will inherit.

It is an error to intentionally make your children as your retirement plan.

It happens. But karma will surely take a toll on her children (that's if it's not karma that made the kids abandon her).

Which ever way, 73 by my wishes....is the best time to take a bow and exit this meaningless place we are in.

I lost my dad when he was 43....my mom left at 52

parents are trying if they choose to use their children as retirement let it be so , as far as they have played their part as parents, the right thing to do as the child is to repay them back.

My father a civil servant usually secure loan just to pay our i and my siblings school fees, he will prefer to drink garri and wear rag just to make sure is family are comfortable and not lacking behind.

if he choose to use me as his retirement plan i dont have problem with that, my prayer everyday is to be successful so i can take good care of them at their old age as they have done for me when i was baby.

To my customers that have been trying to reach me via whatsapp my phone is still down, I'm using laptop.

If you like go and born six and be struggling. Born the one you fit take care without burden.
Taking care of a child should not deprive the parents from having a good life.

Sometimes, a child's circumstances makes it difficult to give adequate attention to parents. However, there are social welfare organisations now that manage the elderly. You can have resident carers or opt for a well managed old people's home. Most parents (if not too lonely) are happier and do better being cared for at home by trained carers. Not random househelps please.

In addition, health insurance takes care of medical matters. All they need is to jointly arrive at the best option and raise funds to carry out their plan.

A good child who is unable to visit regularly or accommodate a parent can opt for this. Good parents sacrifice a lot to look after their children. Abandoning them in old age isn't fair. Even if they're rich, being in touch with them and providing meaningful advice helps them to live a good life notwithstanding old age challenges.

It's not all about money, what's the point in having money but at that stage ur money won't give u joy again. Pvsyy u no go back, ur favorite meal would probably become ur worst poison cos doctors told u to avoid them, from one medication to another, etc. Money no be everything.

IN CONCLUSION TO YOUR STORY, MAMA’S CHILDREN ARE VERY USELESS AND IRRESPONSIBLE CHILDREN, MAY CHILDREN ALSO DO WHAT THEY DID TO MAMA TO THEM ALL. I WISH THAT MY MOTHER WILL STAY (LIVE) WITH ME AND MY FAMILY, BUT EACH TIME SHE CAME VISITING AFTER SHE HAS MANAGED TO STAY FOR ONE MONTH, YOU WILL HEAR HER TELLING YOU HOW HER COMPOUND IN THE VILLAGE HAS BEEN OVER GROWN WITH GRASS, HOW HER FARM HAS BEEN OVER TAKEN BY FOREST JUST FOR ONE, EVEN WHEN YOU TRY TO CONVINCE HER TO STAY THE MORE THAT YOU WILL CALL PEOPLE IN THE VILLAGE TO GO AND TAKE CARE OF THE COMPOUND AND FARM FOR HER, SHE WILL TELL YOU NO, THAT THOSE PEOPLE CAN’T TAKE CARE OF THE COMPOUND AND FARM THE WAY SHE WILL.
CURRENTLY SHE HAS BEEN AT A BROTHER'S PLACE IN ANOTHER STATE, SHE HAS BEEN THERE FOR THREE (3) AND THAT MY BROTHER TOLD HER IF YOU LIKE LET ALL YOUR FARM AND COMPOUND BE OVER TAKEN BY ALL THE FOREST IN THE WORLD, YOU WILL STAY HERE TILL DECEMBER, EACH TIME SHE CALLED ME, SHE WILL BE BEGINNING TO KINDLY BEG MY ELDER BROTHER TO ALLOW HER GO BACK TO THE VILLAGE THAT INFACT SHE HAS A LOT OF THING SHE NEED TO DO THERE.

SOME CHILDREN ARE JUST BUT A MISTAKE. MAY THE SOUL OF THE MAMA REST IN PERFECT PEACE, SHE DID HER BEST BY TRAINING HER CHILDREN BUT THE UNCARING CHILDREN HAS SUDDENLY FORGOTTEN THAT THE TIDE MIGHT TURN THE OTHER SIDE.

MAY GOD BLESS OUR PARENTS.

It's a product of life style and environment. In western countries people live up to 90years they stay alone and still drive themselves...if need be they check into an old people's home But here in Nigeria, entitlement mentality reins supreme.
Westerners have retirement homes for elderly, their pension are being paid regularly not like Nigeria..retired military vets benefit the most in the west sha

I don't really have a problem with children being their parent's retirement plan. The design is that children should take care of their aged parents and I don't see anything wrong with that. Where I seriously have a problem is when parents don't invest in their children to become successful in life and simply focus on making more children and by God's grace one of the children escapes poverty with little or no contribution from the parents, then you see them coming to lay claims of the child and complaining to the world how the child has abandoned them.

For God's sake, this is a child that suffered so much and alone to become successful and instead of you allowing the child to begin investing in their future and family and stamp out poverty in their own lineage, you are coming to complain about negligence. Must everyone be poor in the family?

From my observation in Nigeria, poor parents don't care about their children. They don't even pray for them to succeed. All they are interested about is what they can get from the children because they feel it's the children's responsibility to take care of them. They don't care about lifting even one to escape poverty in the family so in future, that one can also save others. They care only about themselves. They don't care about the endemic poverty in the family.
Did you read the topic very well? Your attack on poor parents are scathing and bears no semblance of understanding of their respective situation nor semblance of evidenced study.

Money is one of the least needs in old age. More important things are companionship and care. At that age they're basically toddlers. Just as a kid cries when his mother is away, that's how old people weep when they're alone.

Unfortunately, the children of this generation are so much fixated on 'hustling' to the extent that they neglect family and parents.

What a world!

A Child is meant to honor their parents even in their old age as best as they can.

‘Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, that your days may be prolonged and that it may go well with you on the land which the Lord your God gives you.

You are speaking grammar because I know I'm not attacking them but their attitude towards the survival of their children when they truly know they practically brought and raised poverty in the family.

See how you can plan to make meaning out of your own life. Your parents lived their life and bowed out. Don't use the excuse of your parents not living so long on earth to live recklessly.
