This sickness is more deadly than HIV.
More reason you watch what you eat now that you are still young else it will kill you too cause it's hereditary too

Was that when you were diagnosed? I assume you had DKA then?

I was diagnosed in 2020 during the Covid lockdown when I was sedentary and consuming all sorts including alcohol without any form of exercise. I was 5 minutes away from shutting down if not for my family who rushed me to a hospital when I was almost passing out and the good experienced doctors who were quick to do blood work on me.

As a type-2 manager, this shit ain't easy to deal with. You can now imagine what the managers of the oga kpatakpata of them all (Type 1) have to deal with on a daily.

It ain't funny at all emotionally, physically, and most of all, financially.

We keep pushing, watching our diet, and exercising (the main key).
Just woke up to scan my sensor and we seem to be good...

I thought type 2 is more seruous than type 1

Type 1 na follow-come oh and insulin-dependent.

The body doesn't produce insulin at all and as such need to be injected sometimes 3-4 times daily.

If sugar is not the main cause, what then is it?
The pancreases is the organ on the body that produces insulin. So lack of product or no production is the root cause oo.

Woww! That's serious!
But the poster said in type 2, the body becomes resistant to insulin all together.. so it sounded more scary

Yeah, the zero-insulin-producing one is the most dangerous and difficult one to manage and also hereditary sort of.

So, WHAT is the primary cause??!!

Check up these early signs of diabetes and don't ignore them:
#1. Need to urinate more often - when the kidneys can't deal with excessive glucose, they allow it to go into the urine. Glucose drags water from the cells that leads to more frequent urination.

#2. Unusual thirst – feeling thirsty is OK, especially after vigorous workout or in the hot environment, but inexplicable extreme thirst may be a sign of diabetes. It occurs because the body tries to replenish fluid, lost with urine.

#3. Unexplained tiredness – as body cells don't attain energy fuel, they can't perform their function as required. This often results in long-lasting causeless fatigue.

#4. Intense hunger – lack of energy activates compensatory mechanism that makes you feel hungry all the time.

#5. Weight loss without trying – despite increased hunger, people with diabetes lose in weight rapidly. The reason is that the body starts to break down proteins from your muscles in order to get some energy.
In addition to this, kidneys work hard to remove excessive sugar and use many calories to do this.

#6. Hazy vision – if blood glucose stays elevated for a long time, it can change the shape of the lens and cause blurry vision. Once sugar levels are normalized, your vision becomes normal.

#7. Impaired healing processes – poor circulation, associated with diabetes, delays healing processes after cuts, bruises and infection.

#8. Yeast infection – diabetes can significantly suppress your immune system, boosting your risks for vaginal yeast infection and oral thrush.

#9. Dark spots – dark patches that appear in the skin folds, armpits, groin are called acanthosis nigricans and are one of the early signs of diabetes.

#10. Pins and needles – tingling, pain and numbness in the hands and feet occur because of nerve damage related to diabetes progression.

It is a sensor. One that can be attached to any part of the body and scanned using a phone to get the readings.

It's called Libre Freestyle Sensor.

Each sensor is for 14 days and costs about $100. Health insurance helps me get it at $25 for each 14 days and can only be gotten with a doctor's prescription.

God bless America.

Diabetes Is Not A Disease- It's A Lifestyle Problem

The pressing point for me there is number 7. Sugar-refined or otherwise is not the culprit in type 2 diabetes. It is OVEREATING.

All foods break down as glucose, a form of sugar. It's then stored in the cells as GLYCOGEN. Now, when one overeats, the bloodstream is overloaded with this glucose and the pancreas can't produce enough insulin to shutter it to the cells. Thus, insidiously type 2 diabetes begins to set in.

I've argued many times that type 2 diabetes is not a disease but a lifestyle issue because it can be managed with sensible nutrition and an active, physical lifestyle.

I like this topic, but, something funny I keep hearing from most people about excess sugar is ,jedijedi, loosely translated as , dysentery! Ignoring the fact that it could cause diabetes, obesity and heart disease!

Eating sugar is not the primary cause of diabetes. Sugar can only aggravate it. Till today, the cause of diabetes is yet to be discovered. Diabetes occurs when the body self-destruct the islet of the langerhans in the pancreas. As a result, the pancreas will not be able to produce insulin again (Type 1) or the Pancreas will produce insulin that would not be enough for the body (Type 2). Insulin is what helps to mop up sugar from the food so that it doesn’t go to the blood. So, since the insulin production is now affected, it implies if that person continue to take sugar without control, his blood sugar will continue to shoot up and lead to complications.

So, sugar do not cause diabetes, it only worsen it for someone that is living with diabetes already.
