Some people are not really holding tight to sin but sin has rather held them tight such that the need deliverance to be free. Take masturbation for instance, many including pastors are fighting it secretly. They weep, promise never to do it again but alas they're back to it.

I know it's not easy to even forgive but it's possible with God if we're truly willing. Once we're able to overcome that, then we're good because that's all God requires of us. Somethings are impossible to forget, like a scar on one's face with the mirror able to remind us everytime we look at it. Hence why God doesn't require us to forget but to forgive.
