“…there was no plan to cover up the findings of the committee, but that ANOTHER COMMITTEE HAS BEEN SET UP TO LOOK INTO THE CONTENTS”.

D above words ain’t mine but that of our Minister for Petroleum resources,Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke.

Emotions apart, talking about how and why the committee report was leaked is like chasing a small rat where there is a big antelope… Any well meaning Nigerian will be more bothered on the alleged findings of the committee and not why and how it was leaked.

What are the facts here? 1.D report of Ribadu’s committee was leaked…2. D Minister of Petroleum was centrally indicted 3. Abati and the Minister’s spokesperson have invariably confirmed that the leaked report is perhaps the committees findings 4. No reaction has been made either by Ribadu or any member of the committee.

MY VIEW
To calm frayed nerves after d fuel subsidy brouhaha, GEJ / Madueke were desperate to ‘show’ Nigerians that they acted sincerely…Thus, they felt the only way to do this is to appoint someone with huge credibility to head one of the innumerable committees that the administration has set up since inception…The logic was (arguably) that ‘ if a notorious anti corruption crusader like Ribadu can give us a clean bill, Nigerians will no doubt be convinced that we acted sincerely’.

But this ‘plan’ has backfired!!!

As evidenced by the above quoted words of Madueke, another committee has been set up to probe the contents of Ribadu’s committee!!! I know as a matter of fact that whoever might have leaked the said report probably did so because he/she knows that it will be counter intuitive to submit a report that is against the person(s) that set up the panel… What more? D Minister has set up another committee that will give her a clean bill!!! And If the report has not been officially submitted as claimed by Abati, why is the Minister in a hurry to set up another committee to criticise the content of a report that has not been submitted?

In my view, the drama has just started!!! I hope ethnic / religious bigots will see how these people are stealing our collective wealth silly…D most baffling thing is that many ethnic bigots that comment on this page have allowed primeval sentiments to becloud their reasoning to the extent that they cannot see any sense in standing up against corrupt politicians…!!!

Great post. Even as I was a staunch supporter of Ribadu, I was one of those who castigated him for taking up this appointment and was very disappointed with him because I was convinced he had 'sold out' to a very corrupt Government that corrupts and compromises everything it comes in contact with eg Abati. I was sure Ribadu would walk away from this with his reputation damaged irretrievably like the Abatis of the World.

It looks like Mallam Ribadu, ever fearless, may have had his own stealth mission of working from the inside to expose this hideously corrupt Government. It is instructive that the report was 'leaked' to an International news agency, i.e Reuters, that cannot be compromised by our FG unlike our local press who often act as another arm of the Government. Like you conclude, this is only the beginning. the "drama" has indeed "just started".

HNosegbe: Now they're telling us they're setting up another committee to "look into differences in perspective" from the previous committee report. I mean, if you don't understand the contents of a report, why not call Ribadu for clarification? What do they mean by "differences in perspective"?

It seems to me that the government's objective here was to edit the report prior to making it publicly accessible.

What a country.
No they wanted to rubish Ribadu's name (ACN) bt he outsmart them.hahahaaa...

Are they now telling us that Reuters is now on a mission to malign the government? Is Reuters now ACN or CPC?

Nigerian oil ministers between 2008-2011 handed out seven discretionary licenses but there is $183 million in signature bonuses missing from the deals, the report said. Three of these oil licenses were awarded since Alison-Madueke took up her position in 2010, according to the report.

GEJ and his cohorts are skilled in the art of playing victim and creating imaginary enemies. If the government is not complacent why should it be bothered that a leaked report is aimed at embarrassing it?
This Government is close to a military dictatorship because they believe any dissenting voice is either a political adversary or an enemy of the state.

Indeed. With the fuel subsidy scam, for example, it was revealed that many without the capacity, history or expertise to operate in the fuel importation sector gained marketers licence. We then need to find out those who are responsible for screening interested Companies and handing out licence to those who meet what should be very stringent conditions. Well, only the FG and NNPC can issue Marketers licence.

Those not into self-deception can put two and two together to know the subsidy scam would not have grown to its proportional highest under GEJ without the complicity of the NNPC and the FG even as Allison-Madueke and the FG are trying to distract Nigerians by making them focus on marketers alone. Smart folks know better than to fall for that rudimentary ruse. Allison-Madueke and GEJ can feign shock as much as they want but sensible folks who can inspect facts dispassionately will know they are part of everything that went on because ignorance is not a tenable excuse at all.

1st, I hv already commentd that there are still considerable levels of corruptn in govts(all tiers and levels) and of course d general public. I will neva vogued for any person in d oil industry in 9ja- dat place is 'darkness' itself, has always been and we are only just starting to see sm small light recently there and we shld nt be too surprisd to see d many tins we were nt allowd to see previously; my main problem is d noisemaking, worthless complaints, hypocrism and d penchant of sm ppl to distort info for sm gain. Billyonaire: I am disappointed in Nihi Ribadu. The FGN set up a committee and appointed him to head it,I am shocked that he has not even submitted the report to the FGN before sending to the press. If he has concluded the findings, the sane thing to do is tender the resolution to the FGN and NOT to the press before the Presidency. It is the job of the Government to release information to the press and not the responsibility of Ribadu, this is criminal espionage, and abuse of state resources with wanton recklessness. I am disappointed beyond words, Ribadu needs to tell us which report is flying around, if its the real deal, then there is punishment for leak of state information without necessary going through the FOI acts after due submission and scrutiny of the government, he must be made to face repercussions. Government knew something was wrong before the committee was set up, and Government trusted an opposition political contender and on his credentials to be without bias with the results. Can he do that in China or USA ?

I didn't expect anything less from u, Mr Billyonaire. Knowing GEJ's antecedent for corruption, did u expect Ribadu to hand in his report only to see an entirely different report hit the press? Ribadu is a seasoned cop and took precautionary measures by leaking this document to the foreign press. This will ensure that any plans to release a watered version by the FG goes up in smoke. Ur arguments that Ribadu should be punished holds no water. First there's no proof that he actually leaked anything and u obviously are at a loss as to what constitutes state secrets here. Kudos to Ribadu for beating this corrupt govt at their own game. I bet GEJ will be regretting giving Ribadu that job. Thieving scum!

racket she instituted at the Petroleum

gasoline and other petroleum products
were conditional on the importer paying
$8 per metric ton allocated. An importer
allocated 10,000 metric tons, for
example would be required to cough

" The almighty Petroleum Minister,
Diezani Allison-Madueke, said to be the
most powerful minister in the expired
cabinet of President Goodluck Jonathan,
has been the subject of a probe by the
outgone Senate Committee on
Petroleum resources on allegations of
corruption, fraud, cronyism and abuse
of office".

The investigation which is expected to
be taken over by the 2011 Class of
Senators concern allegations that in
September 2010, Allison-Madueke
illegally assigned prospecting rights on
three oil blocs; OML4, OML38, and
OML41 to an international oil and gas
company, Seven Energy International
Ltd, through its Nigerian subsidiary
Septa Energy Nigeria Ltd.
The contentious oil blocs located in
Amukpe, Oben and Sapele, in the Niger

reserves with a gross production
capability of 30,000 bpd. Nigeria owned
55% stake in the three OMLs held by

The remaining 45% stake was held by a

The Senate launched an investigation

complaints against the deal, valued at
billions of Naira, from some aggrieved
stakeholders in the industry, who
accused Allison-Madueke of discretional
allocation of the oil blocs against
industry guidelines that such
allocations be based on an open
competitive bidding process. The
lawmakers wanted to ascertain that the
divestments followed due diligence and
was transparent in accordance with
industry best practices, taking into
cognizance, the overall national
interest.

Does it matter where the writer comes from? The bone of contention is where those allegations true or not? Why not try to counter those allegations if you really believe in the sincerity of Diezani.

Her racket with PPPRA officials was an open secret prior to the Jan fuel subsidy protest. Till date how many of PPPRA officials who gave licenses to import fuel without verifying the claims have been prosecuted? Who is shielding them if not Diezani.
who allocated the oil blocs to brief case companies? Wasn't it Diezani. Why are the proceeds from it missing?
This report by Ribadu and her attempt to muddle up the report by constituting another committee to synchronise the effort of an eminent committee shows that she is trying to cover up something.
