You are right. Those Fishermen in Akwaibom are making some good money for themselves.
Are you sure the local fisherman knows the value ?? He will sell it thesame amount as a cup of mphi ( periwinkle) shocked

You are very correct. We can produce fish for our local consumption.
No security, no power, no good roads, feul cost, local production will always be costly compared to importation.

Has pirates stopped harassing, kidnapping and killing fishermen?

My brother's biz at Ikang in Cross River shut down because of pirates kidnapping his customers from Cameroon.

A friend's fishing business around Oron waters also ended because of pirates kidnapping his crew twice for ransom. And the 2nd time they sank his fishing boat. This my friend was using technology to harvest fish in an unusual way but it all ended because of pirates.
I've not heard of cases of Pirates atacking our Fishermen.

Yea, but i think only the process of mass fishing will require more power and fuel, but if you import it's more about small time storage and quick sellout.

No doubt think Nigeria needs to ban the importation of fish and confiscate foreign ships fishing in our waters.
Lol. You know how costly and expensive fish are in the market these days? What you suggested had been in play since Buhari's first tenure in office. That's why fish has become almost unaffordable in many homes. Nigeria is not self sufficient in anything. Even the crude oil we're getting free of charge as a nation is still not sufficient for us grin grin grin

Really? There was a time earlier this year or last year that crayfish was scarce and expensive and the reason was that fishermen were being attacked at see by pirates. I learned of a particular fisherman that was discouraged from going to fish by fellow fishermen but he didn't head the advice. He and his son (if not two sons) were killed. That was around the time when the Nigerian Navy were hot on the trails of the pirates. So they turned to soft targets. But I don't have updates to know if things have changed.

Unpatriotic cabals in every sectors are the ones that are hindering Nigeria's self productive capacity.

The cabals are even stronger than the presidency from what I learnt.

If our cabals are patriotic, even Dubai and most western countries will be a stool at Nigeria's feet.

The don't. Imported products don't have the extra bureaucracy and corruption local goods pass through, particularly in the production and manufacturing process. Ordinary registration of business in Nigeria is problem. Getting necessary certifications and approvals like NAFDAC SON, health approvals, fire certificates, local government fees, Union fees, agbero fees, etc are extremely difficult and costly.
It seems you have never tried to set up a business in Nigeria. The approval processes alone can kill your spirit. And we have not even started about the manufacturing process proper.

They do. Some people have left the business because of the constant kidnappings. What surprises me is how foreign firms succeed admist such. Maybe they have backup security and superior weaponry.

BTW, where exactly is this Fish Market located within Eket/Oron/Ibeno? The name, too, please.
