Even the Nigerian army hesitated deploying amory to the Midwest (4th Brigade) for self/territorial defence; Ojukwu and certain Igbos resident in the Midwest took advantage of this and betrayed the people of the Midwest. Invaded, killed, incarcerated unarmed people. People who were sympathetic to the ordeal of the Igbos and actively mediated for peace.

The whole siege only lasted for 2 weeks, during which resistance by the Edos began and delayed the biafran invaders from proceeding further to the West before Nigerian troops led by Murtala Moh'd and Ogbemudia arrived and began a sweep almost unchallenged.

The Nigerian troops proceeded to Asaba where many of the biafran soldiers had
already cowardly removed their uniforms and infiltrated the communities in order to hide. This was where the 'Asaba massacre' happened.

2. The reason behind this invasion was because to capture the Nigerian territory capitalLagos)and to several weaken it, this is basic war knowledge. And no the midwest weren't for peace they literally poisoned the biafran food ambushed then and seduced them to bring information to the Nigerian troops who had massacres them at 1000.
