University of Lagos is just one of the many universities in Nigeria. Go back and read the article. This time, read slowly and in between lines.
You can’t defend everything. Keep it real. Nigeria is bleeding. Every known sector of Nigerian lives is almost in comatose. It’s okay to give commendations when it is justified. Don’t be quick to commend what is condemnable.
Every sector where you have professionals is currently under heavy attack by the ruling class.

It's those small universities that will be affected badly because some of their great lecturers will use the opportunity to move to prestigious universities with openings.

Incidentally, this is not new thing. The only difference between then and now is that we now have a lot of tertiary institutions. Check my signature for free stuffs!

I'm sure your life outside social media is really MISERABLE as portrayed on this platform...... You are calling OAU, Uniuyo small universities? Definitely you need a mental evaluation because you are loosing it everyday due to monthly peanuts payments from your paymaster.

Lecturers are leaving and you are refusing to employ more hands? So many jobless people are looking for lecturing jobs... Employ them

There's embargo on employment unless you know someone.

If the lecturers are japaing as claimed in the report, then why aren’t the affected universities recruiting new lecturers to fill in the space. We have many PHD holders who are jobless looking for jobs.

i think tetfund is planning to bring them back in consonance with the home offices.

That will be very good. It's not nice getting tetfund, ptdf or even nddc sponsorship and then not return. The entire system is messed up honestly.

When a commission like nddc openly tells it's scholarship recipients to better find their way after getting the scholarship. The entire system stinks tbh.

Let's not go into how our universities recruit staffs.

Are you minding them ?
Just to score cheap sympathy to themselves.
There are so many jobless degree holders seeking for jobs out there.
Unless if they say may be Federal government placed an embargo on recruitment if not, let them be quite from all these insinuations.

Any one that has the opportunity will japa because the situation of this country can only get worst since they have missed it. Osibanjo would have be our only hope.

1.Having a phd does not necessarily mean an interest in teaching. Some use the PhD to get an advantage in their careers.

2.To be a lecturer, you got to have an interest in teaching. Not everyone has that interest.

3.Promotion in university as a lecturer is by publication, publication. Not everyone wants to get on the treadmil.

4.Funding. Oga VC may need 50 lecturers in his university, but government would give him cash for ten. Where is Oga VC going to find money for the remaining 40?
oga! The highest advantage you can get in professional careers (note! Not teaching or lecturing) is your master degree.

The PhD are for those who are pursuing educational careers. Those who want to teach and educate.

If not for this stupid country you won't be seeing PhD up and down.

It's a good idea, but at the end, education budget would be somehwere around 10 trillion naira. If not more. Nigeria can't afford that. (note our budget is 22 trillion naira).

(We should pay our politicians less though).

Its a circle, we go afford am laslas..

Conditions are so poor, the best and brightest Nigerian graduates have no interest in teaching in Nigerian universities
You're correct. I have seen a lot of vacancies advertisements recently. Our educational system is still a problem & the value we place on academic qualifications is still a problem. We need more of technical education & technological developments. To be truthful, investment in education is poor & research & innovative activities low. Otherwise, why do we struggle to build or maintain Refineries, no steel industry, no production units for machines, drugs etc.

We need to go back to the drawing board & come out with the way forward. Poor remuneration & conditions of service is a problem but certainly not the payment platform (IPPIS). There should be accountability in personnel costs allocated to institutions.

apply through the department! The department will send it through the senate as recommendations. Once approved your details will go through the ipps.

School are the one handling the recruitment stuff. So if you get long leg or you know someone who knows someone .
