I and my Igboness is a reality that I can never regret to pursue. My Igboness is inherent and also runs in my veins.

It is interesting to note that the foundation of Nigeria and her citizens are wickedly demostrating their persistent hatred of Igbos. Any Rivers man or woman bearing an Igbo name should consider his or her selves as "Igbo," not by mistake but by nature's design.

That's not true. Ikwerre was 100% Igbo until after the 1966 coup and killing of Ironsi that Gowon called for a meeting with Rivers State elders comprising of Ijaw and Ogoni but were told Ikwerre was the major stake holder in Port Harcourt and that they wouldn't want a State without Port Harcourt as capital. Some Ikwerre leaders were convinced that they had better stake in Rivers than East Central so they attended next meeting with Gowon and agreed to work with Ijaw and Ogoni with Port Harcourt as capital city. I think it was Eze Oriji that represented Ikwerre. During the war they were sacked and took refuge in present day Imo State and Etche. Ikwerre only became a new ethnic group after the civil war in order to reduce Igbo influence in the area now known as Rivers State for the sake of oil which was thought would make Igbos recover quickly from the impoverishment of the civil war.

The only thing Ikwerre cannot be called is Isoma cause it is used as derogatory term by Owerri, Ikwerre and Ohaji people in reference to Isu people bordering them to the Northwest. They never called Etche, Ndoki, Ogba and Ngwa as Isoma.

In 1957 before independence Ikwerre represented along with other minority ethnic groups at the Willinks commission and they wouldn’t have been there if they were Ibo.

Ikwerre along with other minorities told the colonial government before independence and the federal/regional government after independence that they didn’t want to remain in the same region with Igbo people who were running and pillaging the region at the time.

In 1965 two years before the war Ikwerre made it clear in the Rumuomasi declaration that they are not Ijo, Ibo or any other ethnic group but Ikwerre.

Before the war when Ibo people had their Ibo towns union Ikwerre people had Ogbakor Ikwerre.

Just as the war was starting, Ikwerre was among the minorities led by Chief Harold Dappa Biriye (from Bonny) that met with Ojukwu to extract a commitment from him for the creation of a separate region/ State for them as previously demanded, but Ojukwu as usual was deceptive.


All I have mentioned happened before the war but you Igbo people will keep fabricating stories and feeding your children with lies and half truths.

Ikwerre is not and has never been Igbo.
