The agency’s boss also gave timelines for the completion of the second phase of the Blue Line and the commencement of operation on the Red Line.

Lagos Metropolitan Transport Authority (LAMATA) is perfecting plans to increase trips on the Blue Line 13-kilometre rail corridor from 54 to 76 trips before the end of the year.

The Managing Director of the agency, Abimbola Akinajo, disclosed this at a briefing in Lagos, organised in commemoration of the agency’s 20 years of operations.

The agency’s boss also gave timelines for the completion of the second phase of the Blue Line and the commencement of operation on the Red Line. Akinajo said the second phase of the Blue Line Rail project, from Mile 2 to Okoko, which construction has started, will be completed in 2027.

With infrastructure work expected to be completed this December, the agency is targeting the second quarter of 2024 for the commencement of commercial operation on the Red Line corridor. The Red Line rail is a 37 Kilometer rail route proposed to run from Agbado to Marina with 13 stations at Agbado, Iju, Agege, Ikeja, MMIA International, MMIA Domestic, Oshodi, Mushin, Yaba, Ebute meta, Iddo, Ebute Ero and Marina.

On road transportation, LAMATA said no fewer than 1,000 electric buses (EBs) would be deployed on the roads in the next 24 months, an effort aimed at exploring alternative fuel for urban mobility and cutting greenhouse emissions.

Speedily extend the route to the island as well. It should run through Lagos to Ajah and then to Epe or Ibjeju-Lekki. Lekki-Ajah Expressway is a no-go area now due to traffic gridlock.

Lol 2027 is kind of far. So this stuff really take alot of time to construct. Red line to begin second quarter of next year, ok lets just say b4 2024 ends redline should start operation.
I think the best thing Lagos need to do in the nearest future is kick start multiple rail project at a go. So person go fit enjoy easy movement around the state, its possible if the state IGR is triple of what we have now.

Its part of the master plan

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said that the state government would construct a Green Rail line at the Lekki Free Trade Zone to complement the infrastructural development being initiated on that axis.

Let me keep my mouth shut before they will ask me to go back to my region . Lagos belongs to Yorubas only others can pay taxes but don't have a say on how their money is spent

what amuses me is Igbo live, so business and pay taxes in Lagos, but when it’s time to vote you ask them to go to their region, like how

I have a say in the political landscape of anywhere I live, do business and pay taxes, but Nigeria is what it is

Good development. Thank God folks from the SE have all decided to relocate their businesses back to their region. At least, they can no longer claim to be the ones making this development happen.

The holdup for that Lekki/Ajah road now no be small thing. E don surpass the popularity of the holdup for Sibiri, Afromedia, Orile, Ajangbaji, Okoko, Badagry and co.

I understand so many people want to advise Lagos state on practically everything. I will advise they start small. When they have achieved relevance and impact they can then scale up to a place like Lagos.
