Things are getting clearer to me. I thought there was a cosey relationship between Russia and Israel, but in reality, that relationship ended long ago (probably just a few years after Israel was created).
I think the sophisticated anti-air systems in service in Syria are operated by Russian soldiers, that is why they are not allowed to shoot down Israeli aircrafts, doing so would be a declaration of war between Russia and Israel.
If the Syrians had the capability to shoot down the Israeli aircrafts, they would do so.
