Okpollo: Why are you afraid to compete with fellow poultry farmers outside Nigeria at international market? What stops you from exporting your expensive eggs and chicken to other countries when border is opened? It would improve the value of the naira too. Why deny us assess to cheaper goods from competitors outside with your monopolistic backwardness? Dangote is doing it, a no name like you is also enjoying it, rice farmers too. We are part of ECOWAS and we should enjoy free trade across ECOWAS. Greedy few like you should compete not dictate |

TYCO77: Oga what happened during this past years of border closure/ban? The price of chicken sky rocketed from about 3500 to over 8000 and 10000 to even 12,000. Same thing with rice. Keep being a sycophant |
Re: Obasanjo Warns Against Opening Nigeria Boarder For Poultry Importation by 1972xy: 4:36pm On Dec 04, 2023 |
Tinubu must open the boarder for chicken ....Obasanjo protecting his interest at the detriment of the masses . He sells one chicken for 20 k. When chicken floods the market with foreign chicken ,the price will drop for people to afford. |

femicyrus:Even the US protects their local production because anything that affects them affects the economy of the country. You dont get it. If you put your country men out of business who will employ you and your jobless brothers and sisters? Tell your elected officers to fix the country so thst the cost of production wilm reduce? Tell then to creation national price control agency if the manifacturers are the problem. The reality is that you keep voting in some sets of dumb fuckd into positions they know nothing about . The inepitude of the public sector is crumbling the private sector . A lot of companies are leaving the country not like there even an alternative, i heard of a guy complaining about the cost of drug the other day because companies producing drugs are no longer producing in nigeria , what did you do? So you wblame them if they increase the price ? You know how much poultry farmers buy feeds ? There was a time around 2014 that starter sold for 2200 while finisher was about 2800 or there about, go and price them now . Even at that time grown broilers were sold around 2500. Check the change and tell me if its the fualt of the farmers. |

femicyrus: But there are factors that unfluences cheap pricing of international producers rhat are not necessarily the fault of the local producers. It has nothing to do with laziness. I went to banks earlier this year woth bank statement running into several millions. They didnt regard me. In those countries, producers can get credit to a very large extent, hence we cant compare in terms of output. |

Countersam: High cost of feed and feed supplement, occasioned by insecurity in farms resulting to under utilization of farmlands, obstruction and destruction of harvest and farms, killing and kidnapping of farmers, and high foreign exchange rate for imported maize. |
Re: Obasanjo Warns Against Opening Nigeria Boarder For Poultry Importation by fineboynl(m): 5:27pm On Dec 04, 2023 |
Tinubu should contract maize farmer and soy bean to people that have the ability to mass produced them. Loan them billions of naira. There was a time America government paying farmers not to produce if there were excess food in the circulation just to control the price. And also pay to mass produced if there is scarcity. |

Okpollo:I like your submission but let us be sincere with ourselves. FG, CBN, ministries and state governments gave rice farmers everything from loan to seedlings, land, water, fertilizer, machinery etc. They even close borders to encourage them but yet, they came out with very expensive rice that is even of poor quality compared to that of India for that matter. Who will you blame in this scenario? And Nigerians must continue to buy it by force with a closed border? |

femicyrus:There are so many factors also contributing to shortage of food production in Nigeria and this is affecting the price of locally produced food. The major is insecurity . How can the goverment claim to have given farmers every thing but security to produce food ? Do you know how many farmers that lost their life the past 8 years? Do you know the scale of land that is inaccessible in the north due to insecurity ? Do you know that bandits collect taxes from farmers to access their farms in the north? How do you expect locally produced foods to be cheap? 1 Like |
Re: Obasanjo Warns Against Opening Nigeria Boarder For Poultry Importation by femicyrus(m): 6:21pm On Dec 04, 2023 |
Okpollo:It is then obvious the local farmers do not have the capacity and security required to meet up with the gross demand for food in Nigeria. We need help. We can't continue to be hungry by closing the border If farms are not secure, the market has security. Trade across border is save if govt should open burder for food importation |

Incredible128:Frozen chicken importation is also a business but was closed down for local farmers to thrive who do not have the capacity to meet the demand for food in Nigeria but took the opportunity to inflate price for the highest bidder A relief is when your little income has value. Achievable by assess to cheaper food across border |

Re: Obasanjo Warns Against Opening Nigeria Boarder For Poultry Importation by femicyrus(m): 6:53pm On Dec 04, 2023 |
In fact, Nigerian farmers should be restricted to export of their produce only to improve naira while cheaper foods should be imported for Nigerian hungry masses to survive. |

orisa37: One of those online dingbats spotted, how does my statement affect you to warrant an insult from you myopic fool.how is Obasanjo contributing to the economy with the hike in poultry products? The earlier you realise these crop of politicians will always be selfish with their interests the better for your sanity. Right now sycophancy has killed your sense of reasoning. Abeg park well make I look front. Nigerians are not finding it easy and if opening the border will crash the prices of poultry items them it will alleviate some pain, but those benefiting from this won't allow it. Try to put sentiments aside when you reason, but as a dingbat your brain already has factory fault. |

Re: Obasanjo Warns Against Opening Nigeria Boarder For Poultry Importation by Incredible128: 7:29pm On Dec 04, 2023 |
Do you know that doing that would mean the number of poultry farmers reducing thereby reducing patronage on the side of the poultry feed companies like Olam and Top feed leading to retrenchment of workers and a worsening economy? I am not against importation of frozen chicken, I am saying it should be done in a way so as not to hurt the local economy; and for your information, the farmers aren't just increasing prices because they want to, they're doing so because they have no choice as we all know the economy is not smiling and they have to survive otherwise they risk closure; you wouldn't know except u're in the business. How do you expect one who buys a bag of feed at 10000 plus to sell his produce at a lesser price that wouldn't cover his cost? If you knew how many bags the chickens consume before they reach maturity, and other expenses like drugs and the rest, you wouldn't make such comment. I know a lot of poultry farmers whose businesses have closed femicyrus: |
Re: Obasanjo Warns Against Opening Nigeria Boarder For Poultry Importation by femicyrus(m): 9:42pm On Dec 04, 2023 |
Incredible128:I understand you quite well We don't have to die of hunger for farmers to survive. It is when we are alive that we can patronize your products. Nigerians are suffering. If the number of people knocking your door for food is just 10% of mine, you will personally open the border yourself if you have the means. Food first before talking about the economic of a nation |

magoo10:Why would ppl import and somehow do better than your in Nigeria? This is the reason ppl can no longer buy rice simply because foolish Buhari closed borders to ensure we buy Nigerian rice How did that experiment help us as a country? How much is the Nigerian rice now? |

Some of you don't even read or reason before commenting. If you don't know anything about a topic why not make little research before writing. This man is absolutely saying the right thing. He's not a big player in the market again and poultry farmers are closing the farms die to inability to meet up or repay loan. High cost of feed etc He's absolutely right. Stop being tribalism or partisan on every issues |
