If Peter Obi had the brains to peruse and understand a budget, he wouldn't have earned a mere 3rd class after spending 10 years in a university.

The president of Nigeria must get extremely high votes from the north. So, if Tinubu had not gotten such votes from the north, he wouldn't have become the president. It is simple...he had to sacrifice votes from his region for the greater cause. For example, he lost Lagos...do you think he can ever lose Lagos? That was a deliberate loss for the greater good. Of course, Sanwo Olu couldnt have lost Lagos. Not possible. Tinubu lost in Lagos 2 weeks before Sanwo Olu won massively. So, they will always do the worst to win Lagos...but Tinubu's lost was a sacrifice for a greater good. Therefore, I disagree that getting more votes from the north nullifies the effect of tribalism.

Now, let me explain why I said tribalism is the main problem. There was a time when I said it was corruption like every other Nigerian...of course, no one disagrees that it is corruption. But then, I realised that it is deeper. I started seeing overpopulation as a huge factor, and I voiced my opinion. Perhaps, some of my posts on overpopulation are still around. Later, I realised that mehn!...illiteracy is the main tool politicians use to still overpower Nigerians. So, I agree with you that politicians deliberately keep Nigerians at the poverty level. But how...by making sure more Nigerians don't have access to education, especially in the north.

But beneath these factors we have raised (corruption, overpopulation, illiteracy and poverty), there is something which will not make all efforts to address these issues work. And this is tribalism. You see tribalism as a tool for installing the president and nepotism in appointing public officers alone...but it goes beyond that. Tribalism is the reason thieves are not punished, and why we cannot fight corruption. If we cannot fight corruption because I will always support the person from my region no matter the shreds of evidence against him, then, how do you expect things to work well?

So, tribalism aids poverty infliction on the citizens because that man who steals what should be given to the poor can easily get away with it as soon as he meets his fellow men in his region.

I am not a seer but i am certain .. losing lagos was never in Tinubu's strategy cos no politician would take such risk or gamble,

APC lost lagos becos they where over confident cos they felt they had the structure/numbers .... the truth is that Obedient were more determined while most apc supporters in lagos felt relax nothing can go wrong, where you will know APC were shocked to lose lagos was the restrategizing moves they made ahead of the governorship poll, infact they had to bring back Aregbeshola and disburse more incentives to the people & party members.
Tribalism & racism are siblings, there is no country you will go that you won't find one them, one race or color will always feel superior to the other BUt that as got nothing to do with Poverty.
Poverty index is a direct derivative of poor govt policies and economic growth, it is apparent our leaders deliberately make efforts to widen the gap between the rich and poor

You argue like someone not in touch with reality, tribalism only exist among the masses but when comes to the political class they are ONE, i repeat politicians are ONE.
Some people have not forgiven Tinubu/yorubas for what happened to Jonathan bUt GEJ and Tinubu work hand in hand, need i remind you Buhari is a fulani man but he let Godswill Akapabio and rochas okorocha off efcc hook, or is Cbn governor Emeifele fulani before Buhari staked his neck out for him

Tribalism only facilitate needed divide and rule nothing more nothing less while govt policies and its manifestation on the economic is what reflect poverty index.

I will repeat "again and again" that I do not see Obi as a gift. He is a noise maker. Obi has only compared data...period!

What should he have done? Yes, the starting point is the comparison of data to show there are problems, But beyond identifying the problems, what are the possible solutions?

Also, Obi has not for a single day tried to understand what this administration is doing, but blindly criticizing everything without suggesting any solution. I am not a fan of this administration, to be honest, and I still do not see it coming out successfully, though, I used to see Jagaban as a resourceful guy. But after the revelation of his dark side, I don't respect him anymore.

If I was Obi, I would criticise or praise the solutions they are presently trying out. But is Obi doing this? Nope. He is only showing us there are problems cos of some figures he has identified. Does this give me the assurance he can fix Nigeria? Absolutely not. I am even more scared he is only beating the drum very noisily like Gen Dullard Buhari who didn't know the solution but got people who gave him Jonathan's administration shortcomings.

Obi needs to do better.

Lastly...the single factor we need to take into consideration is the effect of the multi-ethnic groups that are blindly tribalistic on the nation. Does China have this? What could have been the effect on China if it was there? Hmmmmm! This factor we want to cover up. And I repeat that this is the main factor that has been feeding corruption. This tribalism factor is the single factor I have identified as the reason corruption cannot be defeated. And is there any nation presently in the world having the same issue as Nigeria? Please, if you know, kindly tell me ....and let us analyse the nation also.

If Nigeria must be progressive, we need to tackle tribalism so we can reduce corruption drastically. No policy can work amid corruption. So, let us get rid of the source of energy of corruption first. Any policy anyone is bringing won't work as long as we cannot arrest corruption. EFCC, ICPC, and many other solutions have failed. And the reason is that we have not yet addressed tribalism.

If you ask me, I think Nigeria cannot address tribalism because this issue is too deep. So, the one solution I have is splitting Nigeria. Nigeria seems to be a nation destined to fail. Please, if you have a solution apart from my idea, bring it on board.

Thank you!
obi has always offered solutions to every negative action he has criticized by this govt.

So what solution has he suggested to these issues here in this very article we have read? Or do you not understand the article before you support your Obi? Tribalism will not allow you to see clearly. This is the problem with Nigeria. Right in this article, he offered no solution... and you still came on board to say he offered solutions to all that he criticised. See....Nigeria is in trouble. Real trouble. Mehn! This is serious.

Exactly my point. Whatever our regional men do... whether good or bad....corrupt or not...we sha support them blindly. So many people are supporting Tinubu cos they are from his tribe. This is not the way forward. It is wrong. So many northerners supported Buhari without thinking. This is disgusting.

it's funny how you accuse me of being tribalistic when I am not even Igbo, the original tweet obi tweeted this statistics he clearly condemned the large number of delegates and adviced the govt what it should have done instead, maybe you should find the original article which obi reacted to, even during the subsidy and the renovation for the VP residence saga he also advised on what to do, even with the proposed cash transfer and increase in tuition fees issues he also proferred solutions.

Lol...I don't have to continue going back and forth. All you have said...Obi gave solutions...but just one solution he gave to buttress your point, you can't give. And even in this article...you can't bring out the solution you said he suggested.

I criticise and profer possible solution. Please, bring out all the solutions he gave in all the ones you have mentioned. Na so dem dey do. Very irritating.

With the number of delegates...he gave the solution...and what is it? You can't say. With cash transfer...he gave a solution...and you can't say it.

Dey play.

A beg... don't mention me again.

You are tribalistic. Is it only Igbo that make up Nigeria? I said even Yoruba are now that Tinubu is the president.. and Hausa are too. Did Hausa criticise Buhari when the military mistakenly killed over 200 ppl? Now that it is Tinubu, they have just woken up.

Oga dey play. Nigeria cannot be okay cos we are all guilty of this issue. Oga...we are all guilty. This is why...baija cannot be ok. Period.

I wish you luck.

The truth of the matter is that, Nigerians messed up with 2023 and I was part of them. Supporting Tinubu is a greatest mistake I made because all what Obidients said are manifesting now. How do we want to defend a President that is out of ideas? Let me tell u, a minute has never gone without regretting my support for Tinubu. We should have listen to Obi. Although to me, it was only Atiku I don't want to get there, not Obi. The reality is that Nigeria is in problem, because this man has no clear direction for driving our economy.

Sir, I agree with you regarding the bolded part. As regards your opinion about Obi... I respect your view.

Could you tell me how he said this is going to work? Or do you think it will work with these issues about Nigeria we have been talking about? I just need your view.

Exactly my point sir. He cannot see everything the president is seeing....and then, he comes and gives statistics. At least, he should look deeper and try to figure out what this administration is trying to do. Sure, we can see how reckless they are, but deep inside...what can we do about it is my concern. He too will get there and do the same thing because they close everything. What about having a system that puts everything open there? Why can't we have an open book for operational expenses of all states and Abuja? Why not? Why can't we set up a system that is an open book for us all to see? It is possible, but we won't do it. Yoruba aren't talking now cos Tinubu is there just like how the North did not talk when Buhari was there. And then Obi would come on board and the same cycle continues.

Corruption is the cancer killing us, but tribalism is the main nutrient fueling it. I have talked about this in my posts.

I would like to use China as this case study..and I am just hearing that there are many ethnic groups in China. Could you give me a reference to study this? I will then want to see how strong the ethnic groups are. Maybe they aren't strong anymore...and maybe they deliberately killed it.

I want to see if they use state of residence or state of origin there. Do you get me? Cos if they are presently using state of residence...they have killed many ethnic groups. Tell Lagosians to adopt a state of residence and you will see war. Lol. Tell the Igbos to allow it in their region also...ams see war. Igbos who do not want to give anything to their females are the ones who will allow other people to come to have the same rights as them in their state.

Now, do you get where I am heading?

Sir, I do not think any leader will be able to put any mechanism in place as long as we don't deal first with tribalism. No Hausa or Fulani will ever be accountable for anything taken from the south. Have you seen where anyone from the north accounts properly for the oil taken from the south? They know what they have done wrong and it is why they aren't going to ask FG to start mining Lithium and Uranium from the north. There are supernatural resources that can make Nigeria extremely rich there too and they prefer to do ilegal mining there. Meanwhile, they want to take the whole crude oil and gas from the south. Mind you....I see Tinubu bombarding these natural resources there...and I see Obi doing same. Is this still not tribalism?

I stand by my point...as difficult as corruption is to fight, it is no way on the level of tribalism. And this tribalism is so cruel that it hides beneath many problems....so that it is the last thing one sees. And when one sees it...they won't one to talk about it....attack herr and there.
Well, you have some very salient and disheartening points. However, I like to be optimistic.

Regarding Obi's role as an oppsition leader, like I said earlier, I do not expect more from him simply because he speaks as an outsider out of patriotism or for the appearance of patriotism. Besides, it's not his duty anyway. It's the duty of our elected officials to chart a way forward and carry us along every step of the way.

Now one major reason why I don't subscribe to balkanising the country along ethnic lines is because history doesn't really support that line of action. Take South Sudan for example. Besides, we will have to carve out over 500 countries if we insist that we cannot live and function with people from tribes other than ours. You're right about China though, they have one major ethnic group while the other 55 make up just over 10% of their population I think. However other examples such as the Tutsis and Hutus of Rwanda are scattered all over the world and they have found a way to put tribe on the back seat. I believe we can too.

Like I said earlier, you made very valid points regarding the present situation but I strongly believe that it's because of problems such as these that we need strong and capable leadership.

NB: I'm not advocating for Obi here. Heck, none of the top four contenders in the last elections is my first choice. I would pick an Osinbajo or a Fashola 100 times over before looking in the direction of any of the top 4, 2023. But in their absence and with seeming ineptitude of the current president, I would settle for the loud voice of Obi. I hope Mr President somehow finds a way to turn things around and prove me wrong though. I'd rather be wrong than miserable.
