Oriaku means "eater of wealth" and not what you are typing. Stop twisting culture to suit your warped narrative.

grin grin, As in ehn, Not a small gold digger o!. I don't understand who gave these Young igbo women this narrative, that they have to be a wife to a rich man. Very silly home training. Honestly yoruba and akwaibom have the best women. For marriage.

But the majority of these Igbo feminists grew outside the East. So if the culture is patriarchal, more Eastern-based Igbos should be feminists rather than those outside the region. Fine, I know those born and bred in the East who are equally more feminist at heart, but less vocal. But then, the Nigerian culture itself is patriarchal. Most Nigerian ethnic groups are patriarchal, but how come we don't have fiery feminists in other ethnic groups such as Ibibio, Urohobo, Ijaw, Jukun, Tiv, Idoma, etc? Mind you, these groups have the majority of kith who are Christians.

One theory is that by being outside the region, they had to fend for themselves and participate in a more competitive society. When a woman begins to perform more masculine tasks, she resorts to social media feminism. Another theory is that due to Christianity, Igbos assimilate more Western ideologies quickly than other ethnic groups. So, they begin to espouse them when they are in safer societies. This is why there are fewer Igbo feminists based in the north. People promote certain ideologies when dem don chop food belly full. How many Northern Christian women do we know that are fiery feminists?

This is just on feminism alone o. I am willing to bet there are more Igbo lesbians than any other ethnic group in Nigeria.

cc: Kelechi009: I would love to get your opinion on this since you are a researcher.
I actually agree with some of your points, especially on adoption of Christianity in the east. My opinion is the issue more systematic than coincidental, like you have mentioned a major talking point which is the adoption of Christianity, any where Christianity thrives, Leftism also thrives afterwards because of Christianity's impact on freedom and justice is very high. Eastern muslims exist but very few of them, mostly are Christians who adopted the western ideology. The liberties and rights that we value in free societies are to a great degree the result of Christianity's influence.

Mind you, a lot of feminists dislike Christianity because they believe it marginalises women, the same Christianity that brought freedom to them. One popular talking point is why Jesus didn't have female disciples. Lastly, another issue is colonialism and the rise of Nigerians moving the west, we have more Nigerians becoming leftists because (1) We speak english as we were colonised by the British as compared to the other frankophone countries , (2) Nigeria has always been in a bad economic shape hence we keep moving out and our second generation immigrants who are women largely become fully feminists.

This is true. South Korea engages in leftist policies than the Japanese. A significant proportion of Chinese Singaporeans parrot similar ideas than those in Hong Kong.

Eastern muslims exist but very few of them, mostly are Christians who adopted the western ideology. The liberties and rights that we value in free societies are to a great degree the result of Christianity's influence.
While that is true, I don't think it is universally true. Developed Asian societies have made me understand a society can achieve those heights without indulging in Western version of liberalism.

Mind you, a lot of feminists dislike Christianity because they believe it marginalises women, the same Christianity that brought freedom to them. One popular talking point is why Jesus didn't have female disciples.
To be fair to them, religion is anti-feminist. This is why I laugh when I see "Christian feminist", or "I am a Muslim feminist". Cognitive dissonance. On the other hand, Christianity is the most female-friendly major religion. The liberty to develop one's doctrine within the same religion attests to such. A religion where Christ Embassy exists alongside Deeper Life while promoting female education and advancement makes it so.

Lastly, another issue is colonialism and the rise of Nigerians moving the west, we have more Nigerians becoming leftists because (1) We speak english as we were colonised by the British as compared to the other francophone countries
Yeah. That is another important point - the use of the English language, which I describe as the greatest gift from the British to Nigerians. Since the US is the kitchen of mumbo-jumbo liberalism, speakers of the English language across the world are exposed, intentionally or otherwise, to ideologies emanating from there. Again, Chinese Singaporeans eulogise or parrot these policies because they speak English or better English than their kiths in Hong Kong.

Trivial point: the top economies in sub-Saharan Africa have English as their official language.

(2) Nigeria has always been in a bad economic shape hence we keep moving out and our second generation immigrants who are women largely become fully feminists.
I want to see the end result of the movement, especially as they are black women.

Good luck to everyone involved.
