Yes, Rufai had to be called back because Abiodun Baruwa that we had hoped upon had a disastrous series of Pre-world cup friendlies. Agbonavbare was not even in the picture as he was already loosing form and gaining serious weight.
1994 WC not France 98...My point then,no reason for dropping Agbonavbare for Rufai based on his performance during US 94 WC qualifiers. If you remember Rufai was not even in the picture during qualifiers.

100% correct. I think Westerhoff helped him get a club in Netherlands after the ANC Go Ahead Eagles or so. It was Agbonibasket during the qualifiers and he was brilliant in helping us secure qualification especially against Algeria in the last game. Algeria had nothing to play for yet they wan pour sand sand into our Gari then.

For 1994 WC Rufai, though had past his prime, was still a better option than Agbonavbare. Remember Rufai was in goal for the AFCON a few months earlier.

Because just like presently they refused to give Willy de Cat Okpara opportunity to stake a claim for d position. Bora multivitamin said that he is short. I wonder if Jorge Campos was a Nigerian what he would have said. Imagine going as far as resurrecting an ancestor that was already holidaying in Spain.
Willie Okpara never really had a good goalkeeping career. That world cup was at least a step too high for him.

Cameron will be without Bryan Mbeumo in AFCON.

Sir,Rufai at that time was not better than Agbonavbare. In fact Wilfred was very active in LA liga with Rufai struggling with no show for Lokeren and later Beveren. It was super eagles goalkeeper trainer that recommended Rufai for Go Ahead eagles and Rufai had just 12 appearances prior to WC.

Wilfred lost his number one for no reason.I had this discussion with Westerhoff and he said fans love for Rufai was damn too much and clamoring for him was overwhelmed. This forced him to have another goalkeeper trainer who was saddled with responsibility to decide between Rufai,Agbonavbare and Agu and the man picked Rufai.

Going by what Agbonavbare did during qualifiers he deserved to continue as number one cuz he was a top notch especially against Algeria.

I disagree Sir,am a huge fan of Peter Rufai and rated him highly than Emma Okala but Bora goofed for recalling Rufai back.Willy Opara deserved eagles number one after Ike Shorunmu last club match injury......Okay,can you say 2002 WC was a step too high for Enyeama or Uzoho in 2018 WC who can only boasted of two LA liga matches

Igho Ogbu doings. If you are good. You are good. It's a matter of time.
If he is so good why had he played in the most obscure and backwater leagues in Europe throughout his 5 years in Europe.

Football ⚽ is a short term career and there is little time to waist.

Maybe that moniker na bot. Many times he repeats the same thing the same way without thinking. Igoh Ogbu in here and now should be in the 70th percentile when he is classed among CB's in premiership. If not higher.
