As such you would easily find gas guzzling 25 year olds belching on the roads They realized they could reduce the fuel import bills mainly because of dollar demand by restricting car age to 5-7 years These are more fuel efficient. The main purpose was really not pollution or climate change but to stabilize dollar reserves. A country spending a billion dollars a month on importing fuel leaves other import sectors starved of foreign currency, leading to local currencies losing against the dollar.
