It's impossible not for feel relax the moment you sight the bridge while traveling from the west to the east as an Igbo man.
This a symbol of peace and resilience against multiple enemies.

You feel calm and joyful. It does not matter how long you have been away or even if you were born outside of Igbo land, you will still feel different whenever you see this bridge. You get this feeling of euphoria on the bridge, seeing the skyline of Onitsha.
And then when the bus or car drops down at onitsha, you take a deep breath and just feel relax like "nothing dey xup again".

Op, you are very correct. Each time I sight this bridge there is this inner peace like I have gotten home now even when I still have to journey to Imo state.

As soon as I see Anioma lands, I start smiling, I slow down from around Agbor and feel like coming down and walking around. That's from where I start feeling safe.

And when I touch tyres on the bridge, I wind down and start feeling the fresh breeze of home, calling mum to put the pot on the fire because, I am close. grin

Home is sweet.

Yaaaaasssssss!!! grin Normally, once you see it from afar while still in Asaba, the goosebumps begin. It's not by Sagamu, Ijebu Ode, Ore, Bypass, Auchi, Umunede, et al. The sound of the wind and tyres when crossing the bridge nko? Priceless.

You will then see that Flavour Life advert.

Those that went home, is that advert still there ABI another beer ti takeover? grin grin

From Delta State and the attendant hustle and bustle you see when approaching the bridge, you know you are home.

When your tyres HIT the bridge proper you feel the warmth and the Cool breeze from the River Niger.

This is HOME...

That bridge head is iconic. It means so much to the easterners. It means home, perseverance, industry, one people bound in destiny etc.
