Their board and shareholders already approved it and made provision for it in their 2022 annual report.
Did you read what the person you quoted wrote?

He is asking what the offence was, for them to have paid swiftly, you're saying they approved it in their annual report

Some of these companies do some other things in the background.
Most of them engage in dollar arbitrage & round tripping.
Some of them do forex trading for real.

Even if alert is confirmed it will still mostly end up in private coffers. What Nigerians can not do does not exist.

What did they do?
Somehow the government has successfully covered them... whatever it is, the speed at which they paid the fine implies it very bad and I'm sure it affects smokers health.

This FG is desperately wicked 😭

They did nothing and received fine for doing nothing. I really do not understand your comment. So, the company that decided to pay the fine gave a free gift to the government? A simple search online would have revealed the reason.

Tobacco production and business is one of the most profitable businesses in the world.

Phillp Morris producers of " Marlboro" is the second most popular brand globally after Apple.

The pharmacology of nicotine in tobacco makes the herb the second most addictive drug after heroine. Cigarettes are highly addictive and indulgence cuts across all religious and ethno divides.

In the 1970's and 80's before advocacy and WHO reports on the environmental & health implications on smoking was intensified, Tobacco companies made staggering and mind-buggling profits from sale of cigarettes alone.

The margin on a stick of cigarette is almost 100% e.g cost of producing 1 pack is 0.49cents and sold at $1.46 on the shelf.

BATN produces for the Nigerian Market and exports to other West African countries with it's headquarters in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria.

The fine of $110m if converted to naira with the current exchange rate is an excess of N120B and it's a significant amount.

Civil Society, opposition and the media should monitor this particular revenue so it can be put to judicious use and not just end up in the pockets of politicians.

The funds can be channeled to productive avenues by government.

I worked with them for ten years, they make humongous amount of money from export and in the north, and as per nigeria lax tax systems they pay pittances as taxes, it's however a great place to work.
