"We Always Knew He Was A PDP Man" - LP reacts to Okupe's resignation by chisomkachy(op): 6:12pm On Jan 08, 2024
The Labour Party (LP) has said that a former Presidential spokesman to ex-presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, Dr Doyin Okupe, has always been a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) man.

The National Publicity Secretary of the LP, Mr Obiora Ifoh, told Daily Trust on Monday that Okupe should not be where his ideology would be confused.

He was reacting to Okupe’s resignation from the LP in a letter dated Monday 8 January 2024.

“Yes, we received the letter from Dr. Doyin Okupe, tendering his resignation as a member of the Labour Party. We want to say that we wish him very well in his pursuit of his political career. We in the Labour Party cherish the moment we had with him.

“After a short time, December 2022, when he had cause to leave the campaign based on some legal issues, we thank him for the contributions he made when he was the chairman of the DG of the campaign.

“We wish him very well. We want to say that he is saying that he is leaving because he is a Liberal Democrat, while the Labour Party is a Social Democrat.

“It is also a good thing because he is not expected to be in a territory where his ideological bent will be confused or different. He has always been a PDP man, so the Labour Party expects that he will return to anywhere he wants to be.

“We wish him all the best in his future political pursuit. Though we saw the letter on social media but we have not received it officially,”
Ifoh said.

Daily Trust reports that Okupe in December 21, 2022 resigned as Peter Obi’s Campaign Director over conviction for corruption.

His resignation as the Director General (DG) of the LPs Presidential Campaign Council, followed money laundering conviction by a Federal High Court, in Abuja.

Okupe had, following his conviction, subsequently paid the sum of N13m, after Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu found him guilty of receiving over N200m cash from former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki.

Okupe paid the N13m fine, just few hours to the deadline given by the court. He was replaced by Chief Akin Osuntokun.

Okupe was a National Publicity Secretary of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC). He was once detained under General Sani Abacha, and subsequently disqualified from participating in United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP) primaries.

He was also a governorship aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State.

Same as Peter Obi.
Peter Obi and myself only used Labour Party as a “special purpose vehicle” to contest the 2023 general election.
Doyin Okupe

He never denied that. He mentioned it himself in his resignation letter. He also called out Peter Obi (PDP vice presidential candidate in 2019),

Datti (PDP primaries presidential candidate in 2019, last position out of 8 contestants) and a few others like GRV (PDP Lagos West senatorial candidate in 2019) are all PDP at heart. They all used LP as a special purpose vehicle. LP was just a means in trying to achieve a desired end. If LP had won, Okupe would have siddon tight in LP. There is no point going down with the ship.

Followers of a particular candidate will feel so foolish now. When the guy was busy trolling Kwankwaso on live TV programs over refusing a merger, they all felt great.

That's why anyone who argues, fights or quarrels with his friend, family or neighbors because of Nigerian Politicans is worse than a fool.
The politicians you are using your data to defend online and even insult people for,are going behind you to make deals for themselves and their children.
Nigerian politics is Comedy series 101,just watch and be entertained, never take it too seriously.
For Elder Doyin Okupe,I doff my heart to him,he lead one of the strongest political movement in Nigeria, a party with little or no presence in the country nearly torpedoed the Ruling party and gave the Major Opposition party a real bloodied Nose.
I'm terribly disappointed by the release of the press secretary,he should appreciate the battles the Elder fought for the party and at least give him flowers and Praises.
I hereby use this medium to appreciate Elder Doyin Okupe for the valiant battles he fought to nurture the Labour party from a has been movement to a real political force in Nigeria.
I appreciate all the effort, time and resources he deployed in making the party formidable.
God bless You sir.
Nigeria is our country, and we must never see ourselves as enemies but rather contestants, once the game or politicking is over,we go back to been brothers and sisters.
God bless Nigeria...........

I restrained myself from insulting that old Apapa LP self-installed chairman all through the LP wahala. I knew that he was not 100% wrong cos the way Peter Obi was made their presidential flag bearer was questionable. You will soon know the real Obi. Lol. Now, you can see the handwriting on the wall....Okupe is Obi's man any day...anytime. lol.

Well...one thing I know is that Obi made sure he showed Atiku that he cannot be tossed around. Lol. It is not a secret that Atiku is begging him to be his VP again. Well...Obi knows he cannot make it in LP either. But if he returns to PDP......hmmmm

So, let us see what is going to happen.

Same as most of you tbh.

Bunch of disgruntled ex-PDP faithfuls.

Same way Atiku prostituted from PDP to APC, then back to PDP.

An average Nigerian politician has no honor. undecided
