Yoruba women dey para these days.

—In Fintech industry, na them dey lead.

—In Music industry, na them dey on top.

—In movie industry, na them dey lead.

—At CEO level in all strata, na them dey lead.

—In wealth and enterprise, na them dey still lead.

I will still research the reason for this. Maybe it’s the culture that gave men and women equal right in Yorubaland so both men and women grew together at the same pace.
It's the lagos advantage, nothing more.
Commercial centers favour ethnic indigenes more,

There is nothing special about it.

[quote author=flexyrule post=127894012]My friend keep quiet!

Yoruba dominate because most banking businesses are owned by the Yorubas and their HQs are in Lagos.

There is so much internal politics in banking, and it's beyond this beer parlour argument you're raising here.

Now learn!

Banks owned by the Hausa would have more of Hausas/Muslims as staff, eg Taj Bank, Jaiz Bank, Unity Bank Plc.. And would most likely have a Hausa as the MD.

Same with Igbo... Same with the Yoruba..

The only bank that that is owned by someone from a different ethnic group and is dominated by other tribes is Access Bank Plc.

Now how does Lagos favour these chaps....?

When the HQ is in Lagos, recruitment starts there, appraisal and promotion is done there, top management staff mostly work out of the HQ.

It's even worse than that... Read...

Do you even know that, most branches would wait for plain paper, biro, ink, etc to be airlifted from Lagos for branches in other regions despite the fact that these items can be sourced locally?

There are even instances where ATM engineers, Time Stamping Machines technicians, Vault Maintenance technicians etc are flown in from Lagos to repair and maintain banks equipment.

Even official vehicles are registered in Lagos, before moved to other regions for use.

It's the Lagos politics!

And that's the same reason Mobil is dominated by the Yoruba.

Yes. They have their operational Base in Akwa Ibom, and HQ in Lagos.
[Abeg shut up with your nonsense, you even sound dumber than the person you trying to correct.the moment it’s does suit your narrative you dolt from across the Niger with come up with all manner of nonsense. I thought sometime ago, some of your clan were up here boasting how the control everything in Nigeria including the financial sector, so what has changed? Now you blaming on the Yoruba advantage to Lagos😂what a dumb commentary…. The fact still Remains that the Yoruba has the highest number of intelligentsia in Nigeria with their early exposure to educations and civilisation, so it’s far from your faulty logic, you can’t just give what you don’t have, just like the ibos control the informal sector, the formal sector of the economy are largely controlled by the Yoruba and that why our signature is almost everywhere in other sectors of the economy.

So of all this things we are saying, na only marriage your brain got to?

While Yoruba women are dreaming about being CEOs, Grammy Awards, Fintech, IT, and etc.

Na marriage to Yoruba men be your own women achievement? You no even get shame.

I want to learn. How does last election relate to individual success in private industry and entertainment sector?

How does last election make Tems win a Grammy or how did it produce all the CEO in this thread?

Politics decides who gets what, when and how. Since the civil war, I bet you know how they came back with 20pounds irrespective of their initial worth to even be called upon alongside other tribes who lost almost nothing in the war. Many acclaimed CEOs are products of political influence and not on merit and credentials. Many acclaimed richest and what have you are given waivers and allowed to monopolize their business fields in the name of politics.

If they can do and travel this far with zero federal influence, then understand it that on any neutral ground, there won't be any competition with them from any tribe in Africa let alone the likes being mentioned here.

The mind of many of them is for their country where there would be freedom to grow without hindrances, healthy competition among others but; I wonder why those who are already claiming to be leading in all sectors keep getting jittery and hateful at the mention of Biafra. If at anything, the prayer should be to fast track the process of referendum for them to decide their fate, anything short of that is a ruse.

Precisely. Their favorite petty snipe at Yorubas is to b1tch about how we are ignorant because we do not travel through Nigeria as they are obsessed with doing for non-altruistic, expansionist and covetous purposes.

Whereas they do not understand that this nature of Yorubas, within Nigeria, show contentment of a people completely happy with their own land, culture and engrossing way of life within a nation.

We are not uncivilized and crude oppressors or insecure tyrants obsessed with denouncing all others as inferior because of their ethnic stock or religion they practice.

If you have a fabulous house, will you not prefer spending more time in it than always been in the decrepit home of your neighbors?

That is Yorubas and our nature makes it fairly obvious why we are happy in our homes while accommodating others most exemplarily in our domain out of all of the biggest ethnic groups of Nigeria.

please don’t fall for their blackmail, their land is so unproductive and hostile to other ethnic nationalities, I served in owerri and I can tell you for free that, Se is not economically viable that’s why it’s the least developed southern region. Don’t be fool by their over coloured pictures of empty buildings. Context mate...context! Dr Ekwueme was addressing Igbo in a Igbo gathering, and was not limiting his scope to a 'one Nigeria' with its attendant pro-Yoruba/Fulani power-play dynamics, bigotry, nepotism, tribalism and envy that has enabled these two ethnicities use a political-economy and structure enthroned and sustained by them to lord it over everyone else! His statement was made in a global context and were mere words to help ginger his people in the face of the challenges confronting them! You on the other hand are bragging with practical advantages accorded you by a political-economy that's been tilted in your favour from 1970 to date....bragging of 'controlling so and so'! You have no case, and trying to use what Dr Ekwueme told his kinsfolk in a Igbo gathering to try and 'justify' your bragging on here, is akin to a bystander getting furious when he hears a man tell his daughter that she's 'the best daughter in the world'! shocked How does him telling that to his kinsfolk in a gathering you were not invited to affect you in the real world!? Hasn't your Nigeria bragged on the African or global stage over one thing or the other!? The key thing here is context: competing or bragging to an outsider is different from bringing it home to brag to the entire family that you're 'better than your siblings and parents'!

The only hypocrites here are YOU and those who subscribe to your supremacist and arrogant way of thinking! You use your hegemonic control of 'one Nigeria' to gain advantages to yourself over and above that accorded to others, then come on a public forum to smugly declare yourselves 'in control of so and so sector'....implying you're better than the very same people you've been cheating for decades! It has been asked, if you feel you're so 'superior and more sophisticated' than everyone else in Nigeria, why don't you fck off and go form your own independent country where the sky would be your limit and you wouldn't be inhibited or dragged down by any deadweight!? The Igbo you so despise, deride, and have illusions that you're better than, have made it clear they would rather be seperated from you and bigots that reason like you, and they have been targeted by the Nigerian state and had thousands of their kinsfolk murdered as a consequence! You connived and plotted to steal the last presidential election for your emilokan mandate thief, even though all fairminded/neutral observers would agree it was Igbolokan.....one would have thought this would be a good opportunity to drop the federal gov't objections to the court ruling freeing Mazi kanu and assist him and his group IPOB to exit from 'one Nigeria' so you can free yourselves to use that Yoruba 'ingenuity' to develop even faster! But you're not doing that, and the reason why is that you don't even have confidence in your own ability to make it in life without 'one Nigeria' and the unmerited advantages you have criminally cornered for yourselves....not forgetting the fact 'one Nigeria' gives you the opportunity to sabotage Igbo economic/political interests! You're hypocrites who don't have the confidence to make it on your own without leeching off of others, so spare us all these lies, arrogance and fake allusions to some kind of sophisticated superiority over everyone else!

Please use paragraphs next time.

...to read this is quite hard!

Me fall for it ke? You will note I always use the word "expansionist" to qualify their real intention of escaping their barren SE for other more fertile and productive land.

They will then claim they relocated to out of love for "one Nigeria" and are actually doing others 'developer' favours.

I am merely reminding them that Yorubas know their hypocrisy and duplicity too well and understand their desperate need to publicly display such.

Yet, equally important to explain the omoluabi concept that makes us very different to them.

We are not covetous usurper and not desperate to pursue any expansionist agenda as a people who truly believe charity begins at home and understand the spiritual essence of contentment with ourselves and tolerance for others. Unlike them.

CEOs of the two biggest banks in the list here are Igbos.
CEO of GT bank and Fidelity Bank are Igbos.

Others are microfinance banks with presence in one particular region or state. Some are just a subsidiary of some of these Giant banks

I think cos of Lagos, which gives Yoruba people a big advantage, just like USA leads the world cos of USA advantage. Other people from other regions should try and remove eye from Lagos and develop a Lagos in their own region to be able to compete fairly. Igbos and Benins are the only ones trying.

Lagos was developed by Portugal and Britain. it was the first built place with infrastructure by colonials. That's why it has the advantage.

Truly, your first response showed no bias and I responded to you without bias too.

Then your second response came with lot of bias and defeatist mindset. Because you think Yoruba women have the edge, then you inserted election into it to try to water down their success as being a product of tribalism.

I am Yoruba and always think in Yoruba. In Nigeria today, when you love your tribe and you’re vocal about it, you’re automatically a tribalist.

You have a point about Lagos but why is Lagos favoring only Yoruba women? You have other tribe women in Lagos and they all have equal right in private enterprise and personal excellence but yet they couldn’t overshadow Yoruba women.

However, that is not the main reason because even before Lagos was this big, Yoruba women have always dominated major sectors and markets. Thats why when you go about reading about first in any field, they are usually Yoruba women.
Leave all this long story. Yourbas are excelling because of the Lagos HOME ADVANTAGE.

The Gbayi people are not a major ethnic group occupying several surrounding states in the area. Lagos is at the heart of Yoruba land surrounded by multiple Yourba states. This will give Yorubas a numerical advantage in Lagos. A numerical advantage means more access to more opportunities.

Then why are Hausa not using the advantage of Abuja considering the fact that it’s close to the core North and most big men in the North have base in Abuja?

Why is Lagos the best in Entertainment, Fintech, Industry, Commerce, and etc when the tribes living in Abuja no matter how small they are can just use the opportunity in Abuja to make themselves reach the top?
