Truly the op didn't give a logical reason in his post, but I can still recall a statement from the refinery long time ago where it was stated that diesel and aviation fuel will be the first phase of production, then followed by pms and later fertilizer and plastic products. This had been stated more than a year ago.

So Diesel used mainly in industrial generators and some heavy duty trucks or aviation fuel used only by aircraft have more commercial value than petrol?

Do you even know what is fractional distillation? If it is not producing petrol, then it is not maximizing the benefits of the refinery. Go get some education!!

OP you are wrong, what you posted there was a product of your imagination.

With simple fractional distillation of crude oil you can easily get diesel and jet fuel (kerosene).The process is easier that's why Dangote decides to go for these 2 byproducts first.

If you are conversant with the news, it is said that the other unit are not ready yet. Why this so?
Crude oil refining goes beyond your normal chemistry in secondary school. Yeah, u were told that when u have crude oil and it's under goes fractional distillation, u get PMS, diesel, kerosene and so on.
In the actual sense and in the engineering, the starting unit is the crude distillation unit ( CDU) where the fractional distillation takes place. U get fuel gas, light straight run, heavy straight run, Naphtha both light and heavy, kerosene and so on. The heavy Naphtha can be blended to get PMS but the gasoline (petrol) u get in the CDU is of low grade and not even in commercial quantity. Now the residue (heavy component) from the CDU is called heavy gas oil (HGO) is sent to another unit called the Fluid catalytic cracking unit (FCCU). This unit is an entirely separate unit and this is where gasoline (petrol) is mainly produced is commercial quantity and blended or sweetened in high grade PMS. If this unit is not ready, u are not yet ready to produce PMS.
I am taking based on an experienced point of view.
So stop saying jargons.

the fractional distillation of pms isn't an easy thing to do, doing this is on a whole different level,the last thing dangote want to do is to sell adulterated fuel to nigerians,making quality fuel has also adds to the reason why Nigeria buys pms, refining pms is one extremely delicate process,also here is the politics behind the chemistry how to create the best grade pms ,on international market there are three main categories of pms ,87%,89% snd 90+% quality grades.if dangote refinery lacks the skill or brains to create at least,the 87% quality grade then it could be a market disaster,the trade secret behind getting the right formula is highly protected by each petrol manufacturing company,i think dangote is still experimenting ,but if this isnt the case then i fear their refinery has been diagnosed to be underpowered or not capable of producing pms.petrol market isnt same as agro business.wishing them goodluck

In the last quarter of 2023, Nigeria spent 1.9 trillion to import petrol, 736 billion on diesel and 135 billion on aviation fuel.
