The same Obasanjo supported Peter Obi and his people condemned him for that.

So it's safe to say Obasanjo doesn't represent Yoruba tribe, FFK even called him an Igbo man.

He forgot to mention the series of event that made Obasanjo placed there to begin with

A Yoruba man "Adekunle" despite his ruthless tactics superior manpower and superior weapons could never capture owerri and he even ended up losing owerri, so Gowon reasonably replaced him with a more cool headed Yoruba man.

But I'm sure you are aware that it is both the physical and intellectual contributions of the Yorubas ( eg blockade) that led to Nigerian success in the war.

If Yorubas has stayed away, Biafra would probably have won.

How could Yorubas have stayed away? A Yoruba man was already helping you to win the war. Remember? It was his choice though but you chose to kill him.

Secondly after winning the war so far, you came down to Ore. You were winning the war and eventually stepping beyond the borders Biafra. Was Ore part of Biafra land? Is Yoruba land now on the map of Biafra? Your greed made you to lose the war. The blood of Victor Banjo who you killed after helping you to win the war cried out to make you lose the war. it's now so obvious that you Igbos will always be ingrates.

Reno is crafty. He twist things so much.

When you lack facts in an argument, you are easily defeated. That's what happened to this Okwudili in this arguement between him and Reno. The Okwudili falsely gives credit to Hausa for the defeat of Biafra.

Neither Hausa nor Yoruba made Biafra lose the war. The death of Banjo and the overpowering of Biafra were just a coincidence. The overpowering was not made possible by the death of Banjo.

Biafra was defeated because Nigeria was heavily supported by Britain and many countries. Was it the death of Banjo that made blockade of food and medicines possible against Biafra? Even with supply of weapons from other countries to Nigeria, Biafra was wining. It was the blockade that caused starvation and death to weaken Biafra.

Ask yourself why nobody from any part of the world has dared to publish any book to counter "There was a Country" by Chinua Achebe. Nobody has tried to use even a short article to counter any sentence in "There was a Country".

A Yoruba man was winning the war for Biafra in Victor Banjo against a fellow Yoruba man in Adekunle Fajuyi. However,Ojukwu killed Victor Banjo not because Banjo betrayed Ojukwu but because Banjo suggested to Ojukwu that Ojukwu should appoint someone from Benin/Bendel to be administrator of Benin/Bendel as against the Igbo man Ojukwu appointed for the position notwithstanding the fact it was Victor Banjo that captured this places for Biafra. The blood of Victor Banjo will never let Biafra see the light of the day. Biafra is gone forever.

Banjo also arrested several Biafran soldiers who were then killed by the invading Nigerian forces.

Lagos was the capital of Nigeria back then, always strike at the capital, Nigeria struck first at Enugu.

Attacking Lagos might be a bad political move but it was a good military move... Until Banjo messed up everything.

The idea of the blockade didn't come from any tribe in Nigeria, just as no tribe in Nigeria made any progress against Biafra without the help of Britain and other countries.

Was the supply of food and medicines to Biafra from Yoruba?

The anniversary of the coup was yesterday. The bloodiest coup in the history of Nigeria that had so many unnecessary murder.

The Bloodiest coup? 20 people unfortunately died in that coup. The one that Murtala Mohammed and his fellow Northerners did 6 months later killed over 300 people

That same Murtala Mohammed has Airports, Highways and buildings named after him. He was even put on the N20 Naira note, all for being a notorious blood thirsty coup plotter

Lol, those ones in the pictures are what?. You don't even know your own history, you probably a kid. Mercinaries flying in all over the world to fight for biafra. Some died, some got wounded. Was it the little boys of age 7yrs and above that Ojukwu conscripted from the minorities into biafra army that would have fought the war?

Re: Reno Omokri Tutors A Fan On Biafria War by nairalanda1(m): 7:11pm On Jan 16
Thank you for your feedback. Please fact-check me. Biafra was winning the war in the first few months because their invading army was led by a Yoruba man named Colonel Victor Banjo. In terms of military success, no Biafran soldier, including Lt. Colonel Ojukwu, was as successful as Colonel Banjo. After he was executed on September 22, 1967, by Lt. Colonel Emeka Ojukwu on trumped-up charges of plotting a coup to remove him from power, Biafra began to lose the war.

Mind you, the Biafrans defeated Murtala Muhammed's Second Division of the Nigerian Army and killed about 3,000 of his men during the Abagana Ambush. Lt. Colonel Murtala Muhammed only escaped because a helicopter ferried him to safety.

It was Colonel Obasanjo's 3 Marine Commando Division that defeated Biafra and captured Biafra's ENTIRE leadership (they did not surrender. They were CAPTURED) after Lt. Colonel Ojukwu ran away.

So, if you say Yoruba's, who defeated Biafra, are cowards, then I would also like to be a coward like them.

Thanks again, and may God bless you.

Biafra was going to lose from the word go. The problem was at the start of the war, the Biafrans had a lot of the experienced Nigerian army officers, not just Banjo, and the Nigerian army, which at 1965, had 10000 troops...yes 10000...and whose non Igbo officer corps had been gutted by the January coup...had to build up first.

Also Reno forgets that the Nigerian government initially declared the war a 'Police action', which meant the Army could not operate with full powers, and then the Midwest and the West declared themselves neutral. (Let's not forget that the West at one point in May 1967 gave a deadline for Nigerian soldiers to be removed from its territory).

Banjo was able to conquer the Midwest because it was lightly defended, and because it was Neutral (for an equivalent situation, see how Germany violated the neutrality of Belgium twice in WW1 AND 2). That was why the Midwest fell so easily (there was the matter of some Midwest officers defecting to Biafra as well..). When Banjo invaded the West, however, that changed things. The Nigerian government declared total war, the West came down for one Nigeria...and within 6 weeks, the Midwest was back in the hands of the Nigerian Army via Muhammed's 2 Division.

Total war enabled the Nigerian army to grow its numbers, and at the same time the Nigerian Navy was able to succesfully blockade Biafra from the sea. Meanwhile, deals were signed with the UK and the USSR, and the buildup of the NA to a war footing was accelerated.

The rest, we know.

P.S Abagana was a fluke...and it was also due to MM's II div being made up of inexpierenced recurits and NCO's compared to IDiv....

The USA was not very supportive of Nigeria during the civil war, and some elements there may have been supportive of Biafra

But then, around the time of the Civil War, the USA was commited to a war in Vietnam , and it had no time for either Nigeria or Biafra.

That opened the door for the USSR to be one of our two main suppliers. the UK (obvious) being the other.

Not because of food blockage from Nigerian side but as a result of Ojukwu's greed and media propaganda. Despite that Nigeria allowed food and medical supplies be airlifted by specific NGOs and Red cross society, Ojukwu blantantly refused the aids from coming in for the civilians.

The problem in my opinion, regarding aid was that Ojukwu probably rejected the aid because he would have not been able to guarantee the safety of the aid workers.

(Admittedly, during war, all sides tend to respect aid workers, by the by, but things happen).

Also, the Nigerian army did block aid shipments on the (not sometimes unfounded) allegation that some of them were being used as a cover to bring in arms for Biafra.

Nigeria struck first, Nigeria struck the capital of Biafra which was Enugu (which was a good decision) Ojukwu had only one chance to reverse the tide and that was if he could capture Lagos the capital of Nigeria in a surprise attack, from a political point of view it was a bad idea from a pressured military point of view it was genius, the only issue was who would lead the campaign, most of the officers in the east were inexperienced the experienced ones were killed in the pogroms, the only experienced officers he had were those who participated in the January coup (the coup he helped to stop) so obviously they weren't on good terms, plus coup plotters can't be trusted they are inherently disloyal ....

so he picked Banjo because he was Yoruba which was good for politics, next he had experience, thirdly he wasn't directly implicated in the coup, picking Banjo showed how detribalized Ojukwu was...

but Banjo had moves of his own, he intentionally delayed the Lagos attack, losing all the element of surprise, also arrested several Biafran soldiers while giving Nigeria just enough time to plan a ruthless counter attack... Eventually Banjo, Ifeajuna and Ojukwu's brother in law would be sentenced to death.

Despite the impartiality of the verdict you guys still try to bring tribalism involved, if Ojukwu could sentence his own brother in law who was working with Banjo, what makes you think Banjo was so innocent.
