Am a federal govt worker and presently on leave,to resume ending of February.
We just count 30 working days excluding weekends and pub holidays.thats all.But it's only recently my parastatal approved for us.we used to include weekends.

Try and read your company policy, company policy will determine whether your leave may or may not cover weekend.

Your annual leave does not include weekends and or public holidays. While applying for the leave state how many days leave you are to proceed, state the date your leave begins calculate the days and exclude weekends and public holidays state the date your leave end and your date of resumption. The problems I have come to realize about most employees is either they don't know there rights or they don't understand how it works. I have faced similar situations in the past and that's the approach I use since most of them are not wise enough to calculate their leave without holidays and weekends and I never had issues. In most cases the HR will be silence the moment they realize you don't know are to do the calculations.

You will have to get that information from your staff Handbook. It will be stated there. All organisations are not the same. What applies in Company may not apply in Company B. So my advice is for you to refer to Staff Handbook

It depends on the organization. In most cases it's the working days annual leave affects. Employee handbook usually specifies the nature of your annual leave whether weekends inclusive or otherwise.

The days included are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday

If your employer says calendar days then weekends are included. If they says working days, then your weekends are excluded.

Be guided accordingly or be prepared for a query. Common sense says you should confirm from old colleagues instead of coming here.

You can speak only for Dangote group and not the entire private sector.

No weekends or public holidays. Work days but I usually use my leave if there is a public holiday let say am doing my leave in December and there is a public holiday I will not count the public holiday as part of my own leave

Since your employment letter states you work Mondays through Fridays then your vacation days should not include weekends. But in my place of work for example, the security men, though outsourced, have weekends counted in their leave days because they work on weekends.

Annual leave refers to approved time off work. So logically, it would only apply to workdays (i.e. the days you should be at work.)

If the worker works 6 days a week, (e.g. Mon - Sat), then Saturday, would not be a weekend, and it would count as part of his annual leave.
