Note that in my employment letter, it was only started at I shall be entitled to 28 annual leave days and also that the company usually work Monday - Friday.

Is it right for the company to count weekend as part of my annual leave days? And what does the Nigeria Labour Law says about this?

A leave is an approved absence from work. You work Monday to Friday, thus, your application is for Monday to Friday.

You don't work on weekends. Therefore, you don't need approval to be absent.

That's a scam, I have never heard where leave days include weekends. Your office must be a very toxic place. Better look for a better company to work for, this one is a slave master.

If it the Nigerian Government, then follow the civil service policy.

If it is a private company, then follow your company policy, as every company have their own policy.

Mine count only working days, but subtract some public holidays.

If weekend or PH is added to your annual leave, your company has to pay for those days and it must not be without consent!

I can see that all the respondents were not in par with the latest Public Service Rule (PSR) amended in 2023. Leave is now counted based on work days, this excludes weekends and public holidays. So annual leave is now 30 working days and not 28 days as previously enjoyed.

I see traditional worshippers protesting that they too want their own public holidays, I see lazy staffs who don't want to go to work supporting them on Twitter. I see them finally getting their own public holiday.
