CBN, FAAN: Onuesoke Urges FG To Relocate Multinational Oil Firms To N’Delta

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Delta State governorship aspirant, Chief Sunny Onuesoke, has called on the Federal Government to relocate the headquarters of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and all multinational oil companies operating in the Niger Delta to the region.

Onuesoke resonated the demand with respect to the recent Federal Government’s order for the relocation of the headquarters of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to Lagos State.

The environmental activist who made the call yesterday in Asaba, Delta State, said the relocation of the headquarters of the multinational oil companies from Lagos to Niger Delta region was long overdue.

He recalled that on September 2021, the Senate passed a resolution for the relocation of multinational oil companies to Nigeri Delta region, adding that since then the matter had been swept under the carpet.

Onuesoke insisted that before the headquarters of CBN and FAAN would be relocated to Lagos as ordered by the Federal Government, the issue of relocation of headquarters of multinational oil companies from Lagos to Niger Delta region should be resolve in a case of first come, first serve.

According to him, “Most multinational and Nigerian oil and gas companies operating in the Niger Delta region had relocated their headquarters and operational bases to Lagos, citing security concerns and restiveness in the Niger Delta. Presently, all that had changed. The Niger Delta region is now more secured and peaceful than Lagos and other parts of the country.

”The Niger Delta people cannot continue to accept this kind of injustice. You can’t milk oil from our soil and then be paying royalty to other state(s) that don’t produce oil and gas. It is not done anywhere in the world. Communities in the Niger Delta region are the hens that lay the golden eggs, they should be allowed to benefit from it.

”The people of the Niger Delta must be treated fairly and must participate fully in the oil and gas sector. We must get our due benefits and not the usual crumbs.

“We must renegotiate the modus operandi of the oil companies with particular regards to the well-being of the Niger Delta people that are hosting these companies.”

NNPC is a state owned company and not a multinational oil company. The company has adequate structure to carry out its operstion in Abuja. There is absolutely no reason to move its operation to another place.

CBN headquarters remain in Abuja. Only a few departments are being moved to their Lagos office. FAAN has no administrative structure in Abuja. The headquarters has always been in Lagos until Hadi Sirika moved it to Abuja about four years. They have a permanent structure in Lagos and most of their activities are in Lagos. What’s the point paying heavily to rent administrative building in Abuja at heavy cost and still be wasting money on DTA for the same staff to be going to Lagos regularly?

If FAAN need to be in Lagos

Why should NNPC be in Abuja? Is all oil activity not down down South?

U can't see the hypocrisy here?

The HQ of NNPCL won't be relocated to the south south and oil won't be drilled in Abuja. Status quo will remain.

You can't force a private business to establish its headquarters in a given place. They do so if such environment is conducive for them. The Niger Delta is a region where extortion of businesses is a community way of life. Those few ones operating there can attest to it. The multinational oil companies are more comfortable in Lagos. Even after Akwa Ibom state government built a free office in Uyo for Exxon Mobil, they still refused to relocate there. The wahala of the youths in the region is too much.

FAAN is not going to Lagos because it has to be in Lagos. FAAN is going to Lagos because they have a convenient administrative building in Lagos and have no structure at all in Abuja. Why should they leave their building in Lagos unoccupied only to be paying hefty rent in Abuja? what's the economic sense there?

The headquarters of Industrial Training Fund (ITF) is in Jos. That of National Root Crops Research Institute is in Umudike. So, should these agencies be moved to Abuja because Abuja is the FCT?

How much would it take to build a building for them? Lmaooo this excuse is very lame

Abuja has the busiest airport according to data, is the capital there is no reason for FAAN to move to Lagos absolutely none

LMAO, look into a mirror and see the hypocrite starring at you. FG agency with HQ in Umudike should not be moved to Abuja but FG agency that was meant to be in Lagos but was moved by a moronic minister for no reason just four years ago should not be moved back. Guy, i am done with you. FAAN remains in Lagos and whoever is not happy can jump into the lagoon. Period!

How I wish Tinubu can actually move the whole headquarters instead of some departments.

I want to see what exactly these guys wailing since can do. You probably think Tinubu is someone you can just pushover or forget he is a Yoruba man, a majority tribe.

Someone should tell me what is bad in moving a department when it’s not the whole CBN headquarter itself.

If the umudike has been moved to Abuja there would be no need to move it back

FAAN has been moved to Abuja moving it back to Lagos makes no sense

The point is that the Fulani man who owns the building being rented will no longer get money. Can't you see, Kadoso. It's not rocket science.
