Bola Tinubu gave an interview many, many years ago where he said he didn't believe in the country Nigeria. That's a very short step from renouncing citizenship. Let me quickly add that he is very much entitled to hold that view.

The problem is that he refused to address that old comment of his when he decided to run for president last year. No serious country would ignore that sort of thing. You must explain to voters why you hold that sort of view...do you still hold that view...and if you don't hold those views anymore, what are your reasons?

Instead of forcing Bola Tinubu to explain his prior comments, Nigerians went to sleep with their eyes wide shut. And so here we are. A man is leading a country he publicly said he does NOT believe in...and he has never clarified or retracted his comments. He has never even addressed them. Why should anyone be surprised things are the way they are? How in God's name can it work? undecided

Obasanjo is a wise man, if he has accepted to do it then the fulanis would have killed him like they did Abiola with the help of the Yorubas.

Olanipekun: As a lawyer I can tell you unequivocally that we must restructure immediately.

Question: You haven't answered the question sir.
Olanipekun: I am telling you that as far I am concerned we have no choice but to restructure.

Question: With all due respect sir, the question is, what is your definition of restructuring.
Olanipekun: Well, the simplest answer to your question is that this is the time to restructure to save the country.

VULCAN:
You tried to sound intelligent but only showed how unimaginative you are.

If the sitting President is against restructuring can the Assembly and others do it on their own??

The President can veto any bill and it will die on the vine

That you cannot grasp that a sitting President is the ONLY person who can initiate the process, calm all objections and frayed nerves and keep pushing till it's done.

That you are blind to the fact that the APC is the majority party therefore it will be easier for Tinubu to get it done and that a strong President can push and pull much more weight than a weak President like Jonathan.

That you must be too young to remember that Tinubu has been a vocal advocate for restructuring for well over 20yrs before he became President.

Tinubu will NEVER support restructuring until he and his party are no longer in power. Restructuring will make Nigeria better but as a side effect-weaken the centre.

He won't support that till his party is out of power

Let me rest by saying you don't have to always pass comment on every political issue like you are some kinda sage when you can't even see the blindingly obvious.
If you ask me, Governor's are our problems. Most especially state assembly members. President Buhari government made moves for local government autonomy, it passed the national assembly but failed to get two-thirds at the state. If I become President, I will personally call all this governors and give them standing order. It's obvious they abuse their powers

The current federal system needs to be reviewed.
Asymmetrical federalism is a major panacea to the current political, security, social-economic challenges and ethno-regional tensions in the country.
Nigeria is never a nation-state, but a state that comprises different nations, yet it is running a unitary system, under the guise of federal system. No, it can never work.

Our federal system, even our democracy is military induced. It is fashioned in accordance with the military chain of command.. We started getting it wrong from 1966, when the military took over the political process of the country. I don't blame the military institution, though. It did not want the country to be disintegrated. Which is their greatest achievement.
Nigeria was better off at independence in 1960. The system handed over to us was suitable until the beginning of the states creation in 1967. Take a study of Nigeria's federal system under Richard constitution of 1946 and Littleton constitution of 1951, the country was already on a good track, even under the colonialists.

Let us restructure our federal system! But these politicians are liers, they lack the political will to do that, cus they benefit a lot from this rogue structure.
Tinubu, where is your mouth. You are the one advocating power devolution when you were the governor in Lagos. Among the manifestos of APC when it was formed in 2014, was restructuring.
Can you see these people are liers?

Stop federal allocation....let state be in charge of resource control and then remit to FG.
The FG will only be in charge of overseeing them and checkmating their excesses.

Every governor must work for the money they spend.

Resource control
Allocation of resources should be population based and not by land mass
States lumped together with other states that have no affinity with them should be cropped out. Nigeria should be truly recognized as a secular state and sharia laws and courts abolished. The Arabic looking alphabets on Nigeria army's logo and currencies should be removed and so many on and so forth. Lastly each region should control their judicial system and the office of minister of Justice abolished[color=#770077]

I am surprised now that he hasn't initiated any process in that direction!
Re: Wole Olanipekun: Why Obasanjo Almost Punched Me by Error401: 12:40pm On Feb 01, 2024
You and I know that the only way Nigeria can work is with true federalism. Each region needs to control his resources, each region should have total control of her security while having a common federal reserve.

You shouldn't be asking anyone this question.

In 2017, APC set up a restructuring committee headed by El-Rufai. Among other things, the committee recommended resource control by states and the creation of state police. Buhari didn't implement the report.

Surprisingly, Tinubu, who has campaigned for true federalism all this political life, doesn't care anymore. APC is a cancerous lump on Nigeria.
But you failed to mention the ones organised by PDP under Obj and GEJ, but never implemented any. Selective amnesia at playhuh?

OBJ had the chance to make this country work, but he blew it. He's part of the reasons we're still here. If OBJ wasn't corrupt and selfish, he'd have been our best.

He could have taken that advice to amend the constitution, but he knew the existing one favors him more, hence his reluctance to kickstart an amendment.

He organised a political conference in 2005 and dumped the report.
OBJ still better in many areas than all the other presidents after him.

Try and be more compressive and objective in your views.

The bolded is uncalled for. I asked you a simple question.

That said, is there anybody in a better position to initiate the process of restructuring a country than her president?

Also, if the constitution drafted by Rotimi Williams and co can no longer sustain the country, should we remain stuck?

Jonathan Ebele fooled you people in 2013/14 with a Kangaroo constitution conference, did he implement his wash wash before he got booted out of power, or did anyone after him pick up the draft nonsense they came up with?

Only the National Assembly has such powers for any constitutional amendment or draft, any other such gist is political hypocrisy for the gullible minded.

Address Tinubu's comments. Don't worry about my hallucinations - they can take care of themselves.

You have not made a single contribution of note on these boards - its just one low grade insult after the other. Any fool can do that. Say something useful about policy or strategy or make a bold prediction about events - and then you'll be taken seriously. But we both know you can't cut it.
