It's season of protest
Re: Massive Protests At Michael Okpara University, Umudike by Dpharisee:
Highest stupidity is destruction of school and public property during Aluta protest because you all will pay for it when the school resumes in batches.
First week; Year one and Final year will be asked to resume and prepare for exams with proof of payment. Year one are new and their legs are not strong yet to make trouble while final year just want to graduate and go.

Second week: Year four, they are the 'big' boys and girls and will pay for the destruction

After 4 weeks of resumption: Year 2 and 3 the trouble makers will be recalled and by then the other students wants to concentrate on their upcoming exams preparation and won't be ready for more trouble.
At the end they will pay for all the damages and wonder if it was worth it.

Then the school will announce a reduction in the fees by N10k and the students will think they have won against the authorities cheesy

Wrong move by the VC at this time when the country is at boiling point. Normally even if you no pay school fees those days you can write exams but you can’t see your result until you pay. Don’t know why it’s different now.

There is a massive protest ongoing at the Federal University of Agriculture (renamed Michael Okpara University of Agriculture), Umudike in Abia State.

Reports say the protest had been brewing for months owing to the sharp increment in school fees at the end of last year.

Added to that, the University Management under the Vice Chancellor, Professor Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, had commenced the implementation of a Biometric exercise that will restrict students who hadn't paid their school fees from partaking in the examination.

With the exams starting yesterday, the VC and his team went from hall fo hall, sending out students who defaulted, with some who really had paid affected by the inconsistency of the Biometric system.

However, the students took laws into their hands, pounced on the VC, chased him out of the hall, destroying properties of the University amid teargas and gunshots from the school security.

The students were seen chanting "No Gree For Anybody", "we no go gree o"... chasing the VC, throwing stones and sticks at his official vehicle.

The University has been indefinitely shut down as students have taken over the Umuahia-Ikot Ekene Road, putting on bonfires, etc.

Iwe, a Professor of Food Science & Technology, is a former Head of Department, a former Dean of Students Affairs, and a former Deputy VC (Academics) of the Institution.

The country is already hard and people are making it harder for one another. Why not allow them write exams and give them time to pay, even if it's during clearance, you clear up all outstanding debts. He said no! He deserves what he got. People are wicked in this country, no empathy, one way we all can come out of this mess is to help one another, not frustrate one another.

To stop dis is easy.... Stop sch fees payment per semester and make it per session.... If u don't pay then no registration for you.... But with dis mode of payment, some students will pay first semester money and refuse to pay for 2nd semester and start rioting.... D funny thing is dat they'll want to write exams..... And some have collected d money from their parents or guardian but have spent it.....

They increased sch fees payment and u don't like it then start protesting from start of d semester, not when 70% have paid and have started writing exams, then u start protesting.... Kai ino knw which kind aluta dey sch dis days

Professor Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe was the returning officer for the 2023 governorship that announced Mbah as a winner.

What do you mean fucking wrong? Are you okay. Do you know what people are going through? Do you know some of those students have not eaten coming to write that exam? Do you know what the parents are going through because of your useless president and policies? Why drive them out if exam hall, do you know that is equal to an extra year? Why not allow them write exams and pay fees later? Do you know there's a way he would have handled the matter, those same students will carry him in the shoulder singing his praises? Where is the place of empathy? They should have burnt his car. All of you are mad

Poor delegation skills. Poor strategic thinking on the part of the VC. He was not supposed to be doing the rounds he embarked upon. The school certainly has Principal officers that could do that for who the VC takes responsibility in case they are attacked by the students as it later turned out. The Fed Min. of Education will blame him for putting himself in harm's way. Generals don't get captured or injured in battle. They keep the rear!
Re: Massive Protests At Michael Okpara University, Umudike by pacesetting: 4:05pm On Feb 06, 2024
Exactly!! Everywhere is financially tensed. Why not take the route of withholding results until the fees are paid?

Your typical mindset, full of hate and bigotry, is the reason we find ourselves in this sorry state.

He wants to show that he is a strong man. There is a limit people can show respect, not when you push them to the wall.

Nigeria's education system has become a mess. In many situations, you will even pay for something in the school and struggle so hard to collect it. Sometimes you have to go regularly to the office.

Very messed up place.
