Just got and iphone 13 pro.
But the camera is absolute thrash especially the front camera in poor lit my S10plus is way better.

It's Good when in well lit areas.

Help with any recommendations regarding settings

First, ensure that your lens in clean, then always turn off flash light. Use natural light always and never zoom on unless it's highly necessary.

But the MAX was to big 4 me just wanted something portable n small

Change the screen guard, that should fix it and make sure nothing is interfering with the front camera's lens. Could be dust or anything.

I'm using a 12 PM and the camera is top notch even in poor light conditions.
It's either your camera lens is dirty or possibly your phone's original camera lens was previously damaged and subsequently replaced with a substandard one.
If you didn't buy the phone directly from an Apple Store, these are the likely causes.
