Are we paying subsidy or not?

N500 per litre less than before by my estimation.

One initiative is to set up a handful of conversion facilities for registered commercial transporters. AFAIK, CNG/LPG price has comparatively lagged the non-subsidized gasoline price since the removal.

Are these commercial transporters of goods or people?

If people, what impact would this have except reduction of a small percentage of bus fares in some cities? The bulk of our transportation of people is done by private individuals

There is no subsidy on diesel. It's price fluctuation is subject to FX rates, that is the Koko when it comes to goods

There is nothing to analyse. Even Nairalanders could tell them the effect of what they promised two years ago. They knew the effect on common man before they promised it. It's like amputating a rotten limb, nothing go sweet inside

I believe the analysis on the hard decision is the first thing he had to do before removing the subsidy. That announcement on his inauguration day is characteristics of a reckless leader.

hunger is the worst enemy of man and that's the new reality you're saying people should adjust because he want to form hard man.

If a Buhari that was the greatest beneficiary of the politically motivated 2012 subsidy removal protest refused to remove subsidy for 8 years of studying the polity that should tell u a lot.

It will not hurry anybody to admit they gaffed ing with Tinubu hoping the abrupt removal of fuel subsidy will spell this much room for the general populace.

Tinubu is the president today, his actions and inactions have thrown the people who voted and those who didn't vote him into serious hardship. If anything, na how to bring the people out of the abyss he threw the people into supposed be person concern. No be say na gaslighting wey no change status quo

CNG/LPG is the energy source of choice for transporters in places like India.

You're the one who said there's no ameliorative measure that could be enacted. I suggested one that has been implemented successfully in peer countries and you're asking about the impact. This is one example. How about opening the borders or reducing import duties on essentials for a limited period?

Cumulatively, don't you think these measures would have softened the blow of a subsidy removal?
If I can come up with these, are you trying to tell me that a well-meaning leader can't assemble a panel of experts that'd put together a better plan than sharing rice?

And if you're saying that the best that Tinubu and his "we prepared for 15 years" gang can suggest is sharing of rice, then by all things that's sacred, don't you think they are ill-equipped to pilot the affairs of this nation.

You're British. How many boneheaded decisions did Liz Truss make before she was bundled out?
How about Carol Bartz of Yahoo who was sacked over the phone?

Yet here you are giving the most stupendous excuse in the history of excuses that a confirmed dolt should not be criticized because he plagiarized the manifestos of more capable candidates.

If Nigeria was a private company, will you accept that BS you spewed? A non-performing CEO should not be fired or criticized because his replacement will do no better. In fact, you're cocksure that his replacement will take the exact same stupid decisions in the exact same moronic manner because you're Doctor Strange moonlighting as a finance pro. Where would that fly?

The fg was owing nnpc 2.3 trillion naira in subsidy payments . Nnpc had stopped remitting to the federation account because of this. So what do you think would ultimately have happened if the fg had not removed the subsidy.

According to the Nigerian constitution, all minerals, gas, and oil the country possesses are legally the property of the Nigerian Federal Government. The revenue gained by the NNPC accounts for 76% of federal government revenue and 40% of the entire country's GDP

The implication of the above is if the subsidy had continued Nigeria's revenue would be down to 24% or less.

All Buhari ultimately did was delay the inevitable till after his exit. Which is actually a ceo business strategy. Let the next guy clean up the mess. I will be long gone and it will be someone else's problem

I thought subsidy probe has been on since God knows when. Does Buhari's job in the past 8 years not involve probing NNPC and outstanding sunsidy payments?

Nigeria is a company that has been under the same management for the past 9 years. No?

The average price of gasoline around the world is 1.29 US Dollars per litre. However, there is a substantial difference in these prices among countries. “As a general rule, richer countries have higher prices while poorer countries and the countries that produce and export oil have significantly lower prices

Do you want a situation where we are paying over n1400 per litre?

We have had the discussion on subsidy over and over.

From 2016 nnpc has been the sole supplier of petrol in Nigeria. The fg stopped the subsidy in 2015 when Saudi crashed the price of oil to kill the US fracking industry. Price of petrol was 100 per litre or thereabouts at the time.

It was a peculiarity, low oil price, low revenue, low petrol price. As oil prices rose, revenue rose and petrol prices rose as well. This is actually when in hindsight Buhari should have bit the bullet and not returned us to subsidy via undercoverry. The pain of subsidy removal would have been behind us and we would have transitioned.

But it is what it is.

1) Nigeria is broke
2) Nigeria has failed to diversify her earnings
3) Nigeria's main fx earner is being eroded due to underproduction and oil theft
4) there are multiple leakages within the system

The above has always been the case but it was cushioned by our earnings. Now our earnings have dropped and nothing can be hidden anymore.

N1400/litre is the average international cost of petrol. So however bad you think things are, they could be worse.

There was no analysis for Tinubu to make. He was only copying his opponents’ strong points.

It’s akin to copying an answer in an exam hall, without showing full working. If investigator asks how you arrived at your answer, you go explain tire.

In 2012,nigeria was earning more than today.

There is a lot of revisionism about the subsidy removal
1) from the chart the subsidy grew by 400% from 2010 to 2011.
2) i remember that at the time moman wrote an open letter complaining about the proliferation of brief case companies that were making subsidy claims.

Simply put under gejs admin the subsidy became a free for all where connected people would supply product on paper and get paid.

When it got out of control, rather than initiate punitve measures gej opted for the lazy way out by removing the subsidy without notice. I remeber it as it was on January 1. You may remember as well because Nigerians who traveled for Xmas were stranded. It was a complete mess and an own goal.

What should have happened is someone should have accounted for a 1.5 trillion increase in a subsidy. Instead gej opted to sweep it under the carpet and pass the fallout to Nigerians without any warning.

A presidential candidate wanting to be president of an import-dependent country who declared and reprimanded the citizens for worrying about the foreign exchange rates was never going to do any analysis of consequences.

The joke is on his minions who cheered him when he kept dropping distasteful and anti-economic-development takes during the campaigns.

Buhari had repeatedly said there was no more money to pay for subsidy. The fgs debt to nnpc was in the news before the inauguration. You a numbers guy who is making allowance for inflation in company budget, you actually think tinubu would somehow handwave revenue to pay for subsidy into existence?
