So I opened this thread

https://www.nairaland.com/7995603/should-worried

And I share the experience I had with my girlfriend concerning the issue of bearing my name. To my shock almost everybody started insulting me.

This shows how far we've falling as a nation. We lack basic morals. Everyone is vile and uncultured. Tomorrow we will blamed our leaders whereas we are worse than them. It's a shame.

Brother, you can sound the trumpet 🎺 louder.
Most people on this forum have this Rabid Animal Syndrome (RAS) in them which makes them attack like a rabid wild animal with insults on issues and comments which don't come an inch close to warranting them.
The truth is so many people are mentally deranged and a vast number of them are on NL.
I have had my fair share of encounter with them while posting.
So many here actually deserve to be in chains and padlock in a mental home, because I don't understand it at all.
Small thing and lunatics would start raining insults as if you have a age long quarrel with them and their families.

Nairalanders are peaceful.
However if anyone yab you, yab the person, mama, papa and ancestors join!
No gree for anybody.
The kingdom of Nairaland suffereth violence and the violent taketh it by force. Here, it's either you go hard or you go home!

To the topic Mr Gbadugbakun, imagine am ya gf and you said I should change my name to ya own. How can that be possible?
Did you marry me legally through court or any form of marriage?
Is craze not worrying you or you are about to enter craze?
If nairaland is vile, you sef be agent of violence!
Ya mumuness is outstanding!

Nlanders can be vile truly but some mature ones always comment and you can take those advice but it seems you're too emotional to get the general consensus. Let me see if I can help you out because I just went through the thread.

1. A gf telling you that she won't change your to your name in an assertive manner counts as a red flag, it should have been more like a suggestion to you with reasons tangible not because the world is changing.

2. She flared up when you brought about your children's name and called it childish question. You're too emotional and you may end up being a doormat.

3. Even your elder brother condemned the ridiculous situation and you're bitching over strangers when they did same??

4. We can now truly assert that we unfortunately still have weak men everywhere. embarassed cry

Throw her to the trash.

You would cater for her and she wouldn't take your name?

The same girl would happily take another man's name if you guys don't end up together

Father takes the pain to send a daughter through law school or med school and then after marriage, you're asking her to change her name to your surname because of marriage. For what, God forbid!!!!

So you are sending your daughter to school so she'll bear your name??
My parents sent me to school so I'll have a better life. I'll do same for my children. It is all about them having a better/easier life than you did

So you're saying If you should give birth to just 1 child(daughter) who studied medicine, you wouldn't be disappointed if she should marry a guy who studied computer science and took up his surname?

ALL my parents care about is that I have a happy productive, fulfilling, life. That's all they care about
Re: Nairaland Is A Very Vile Place. by iLegendd(m): 8:37am On Feb 12
In life, we have

1. Weak men (SIMPS)
2. Strong men (PIMPS)
3. I don't care men (DIMPS)

If you're number 1 or 3, she wouldn't want your surname because changing all her files and swearing lots of affidavit takes time and money.

If you're number 2, she won't even think of not changing.

When a woman is the one who desires the man badly or he's a strong man, she changes her surname to her husband.

When it's the man who desires her the most and he's a weak or I don't care man, she won't change her surname.

So, know where you belong. Are you a SIMP, a PÃŽMP, or a DIMP?

I'm not asking about your parents now, I'm asking you, as a father to an only child(a daughter)!!!
See, even before I marry anybody, I'll ask her, "do you wish to retain your father's name", because I feel that's the right thing to do. But then, this just me!!!

I already told you indirectly, same way my parents don't care if I take up my husband’s name, I couldn't care less if my child takes up the name of the man on the moon, as long as she lives a happy, fulfilled, and productive life

Nairaland is indeed a vile place. You are right!

Nairaland is filled with people struggling with the challenges of life in Nigeria. So what you got is what it is.

However, you were given a very sound advice in the process. You are a man, I suppose. I expect you look pass the insults and sieve out the chaff then pick up the lessons that was discharged to you.

Guys trolled you no doubt but did you see where you got it wrong?

Now, the girl you spoke about has no respect for you. She doesn't see you as a man she can submit to. She called you childish. Women tend to love men who are confident and can take charge not some sissy sort of person.

So if I were you, I wouldn't come back here looking for who is going to cuddle me or pet me.

I am going to man up. Suck it up and make changes. If you do have some character weaknesses, there is a good chance the next lady will find out about it and disrespect you.

Or maybe it's the lady who had issues, in any case, you need to toughen up.

Perhaps, there maybe some characters you displayed in front of the lady, which maybe the reason she lost her respect for you.

Let me make it abundantly clear to you, the only currency a man trades with is respect. Men don't do love, they earn their respect from their peers and from their family. Women and child do love.
Take respect from a man, he is finished.

So forget about nairaland being a vile place, you have no control over that. You have control over yourself. Work on that.

If you really care about yourself and your mental health, set boundaries. Reduce your complaints and focus on things you have control over.

Cheers
