98% of Nigerian governors are lazy and clueless but their people wont hold them responsible for it. What's stopping most states from investing massively in large scale farming and tourism(some Nigerian state has a rich culture and beautiful landscape than Zanziba, look at what Zanziba is today) instead of white elephants project like airports undecided . Awolowo built the first TV station, Stadium, free education program in Africa with cocoa money and the total revenue from the cocoa is not up to the FAAC allocation that these wicked governors are pocketing. Governors are the major problem in Nigeria
The governors during the tenure of Yaradua and GEJ, were they different from the ones we have today? and things weren't this bad. Yes, the governors have a role to play, but the person that plunged this nation into this level of hardship is Bulaba

During Awolowo time things are not as cost as they were, Governors are not just to blame, the federal government to a larger extent are also to blame as they have destroyed almost every working system.
Nigeria's glory will surely come back but it may take time
God bless the federal republic of Nigeria

Waste of State funds attending the meeting. Meaningless decisions. Deal with Corruption, Tax the wealthy more, Deal decisively with insecurity. Focus on power and agriculture. No need for "decisions". Just get the job done. The Constitution already contained these things.

Your crass and gross ignorance that made you this foul-mouthed just got the better of you! Folks who associate with you here should know you better now. Pick up a copy of the Nigerian Constitution and you will see that the essence of government is to secure the realm. Food security is a major component for achieving that. You lack home training. Your parents did the best they could but like the proverbial dog certain to get lost you paid no heed to them. Very ill mannered lout!

Re: 6 Decisions From President Tinubu's Meeting With 36 Governors by EDUECO(m): 9:31am On Feb 16
malali:
1. On addressing insecurity which is also affecting farming and food production, President Tinubu made three key pronouncements.
Essentially nothing, no tactics, no strategy, more like just pretending to be doing something.

2. On the rising cost of food: The President directed that the State Governments and Federal government should collaborate to increase local food production.
Even if food production will be increased, it will take 3-4 years to notice any impact realistically, A lot of people would have died by then ? The farm is not bigger than last year ? The farmer who had a hoe last year doesnt have a tractor this year ? The storage facilities are still the same. This is passing the buck. Food security is a national security problem.

The President advised against the idea of food importation and price control when local food producers should be encouraged to produce more food.
Food importation is bad, everyone knows that. Has the government met with the Large scale farmers? Can the ministers of Agriculture, tell us what we produce and by how much we need to increase produce? Bring in Agricultural franchises and set up in every state, Farming has to be done scientifically with mechanization, tractors, harvesters, hybrid seeds, pesticides, fertilizers, farmers insurance. Its patronizing for the president to keep telling them not to import but increase food production ? How will they do this ? By Magic ? We have NNPC and yet we have not been able to get energy right, but we do not have a similar organization for farmers, we just expect a bunch of local farmers to replace the importation.Just like that...lol

3. The President advised Governors to follow the example of Kano State in dealing with the hoarding of food for profiteering by commodities merchants.
He directed the Inspector-General of Police, National Security Adviser and Department of State Security Services to monitor warehouses hoarding food items across the country and stop profiteering by merchants.
Lets not mistake storage for hoarding, Farmers should not be abused as well, if politicians cannot lower their own income, why are farmers expected to sell all their products at cheap prices, Are farmers not in the same economy as everyone else. If a farmer sells everything for cheap but seeds, fertilizers, labour, cost of petrol for tractors is skyrocketing. How will the farmer survive the farming season. A responsible leader should take responsibility. Farmers farm for profit, they are not the ones responsible to subsidize food in Nigeria. They also have financial responsibilities and prices are skyrocketing.Nigeria doesnt make tractors, tractor prices just doubled in price with dollar exchange rates.

4. The President charged Governors to pay attention to livestock development in their states and increase production most especially poultry and fishing products.
This also lacks strategy or any expertise ?Are they going to start poultry production in government house ? The poultry feeds have doubled in price, corn is a staple in making these feeds. Mr President what is the strategy ? Are we going to start a poultry in Aso rock ?

5. The President pleaded with Governors to ensure all salary arrears to workers and gratuities to retired workers and pensioners are cleared as a way to put money into the hands of the people since states are now getting more monthly FAAC revenue. Spend the money, don’t spend the people, he urged the governors.
This should be enforced, there should be checks and balances in place to make sure the monies get to the end user. This is not business as usual.

6. President Tinubu implored the Governors to create more economic opportunities for the youths in their states to keep them more productively engaged.
At the end of the day, the states cannot be responsible for all the youths, if so we would not need a president, we would be okay with just state governors. The federal government should also create opportunities, also private sector should be saddled with creating opportunities for youth, people hiring foreigners, should only be doing that if there is no competent person in Nigeria.

Food security has to addressed, when energy was an issue, energy had to be subsidized, why is food any different ?Why are we expecting the poor farmer to boost production overnight? Its not good enough to tell the security to look for hoarders, everybody knows hoarding is not the problem. We need scientific and mechanized farming. We need hybrid seeds, storage facilities, pesticides, fertilizers, technical expertise. There is a reason food importation has been rampant before now. We have so many senators, house of representatives, ministers, advisers, special advisers and this is the best we come out with, we have problems peculiar to Nigeria. The government needs to tackle these. If not it will only get worse?

That's putting it straight to the governors that most of them are underperforming and thus, need to start acting in the interest of their state and its citizens. FG have minimal responsibility on the growth of any given state, so hold your governors accountable. The bulk of blame/glory over whatever event in a,state should stop at the office of the governor.

Return the subsidy

Let's even set subsidy aside

Open border or free market will solve hoarding that they alleged, scarcity inflation of food

How can farmers produce enough in nigeria when there is insecurity on the farm, high cost of energy and inputs, flooding etc

How much quantity can be produced in this kind of debacle to sustain a nation

We must begin to ensure that our state governors are held accountable.

Now somebody is talking sense!

All of you shouting Tinubu, Tinubu, you want to tell me you don't know that Governors collect allocation consistently on a steady and never account for it. They'll go stash the money somewhere and go collect another one. Hold them responsible! They've also devised means to cheat the LGs out of the money. Start calling your governors out, they are your nemesis!

We are all in it together . In a sane society , after what the country passed through under Buhari's Government, are we still suppose to vote for the same party to continue? We deserve what ever thats happening to us.
Simple , we refuse to learn.

A total waste of time as nothing was actually said... This makes no sense and no immediate attention to the deteriorating needs of the country. Asking for increase in food production but banning import is outrightly stupid. 36 governors and a president reaching on such empty conclusion is beyond dumb. So you're directly taxing the farmers to farm when their security is not assured, and what's the timeline for them to produce enough? Won't Nigerians die b4 then? How many tractors have they brought in? Hybrid seeds? Improved mechanical equipments, improved scientific method of planting. Nothing is in place not even fertilizer. So it's now farmers responsibility to take care of Nigerians?
Will governor's start poultry farming? How much is poultry feeds?
Unnecessary waste of time and I'm sure an outrageous amount of money was signed for this empty gathering of fools.

mrksquare:

One of the grouse of Nyesome Wike on his estranged political godson in Rivers state is the former's attempt to resuscitate Songhai farm and the fish farms built by Amaechi.

Had it been Wike as Governor gave priority to agriculture by now Rivers state would have been self sufficient to an extent in food production. The Cassava processing farm in Afam, oyigbo that was built by Shell as part of their CSR and handed over to Wike has been under lock and keys for over 5 years. That plant would have helped in processing garri in an industry scale if it was put to use.

The fish farm built by Amaechi but sabotaged by Wike would have helped in complimenting our fish mix in Rivers state. But because Wike had an aversion for anything Agriculture, his minions stole all the equipment put in place at the Buguma Fish farm and others and also ate the fishes.

Should we also mention how Wike paid touts to set ablaze the banana plantation farm in Ogoni after deceiving the Ogoni youths that they are not monkey. Meanwhile, country like St Vincent in the Caribbean has as it number one revenue earner, the export of banana.

Every state governor should be made to invest in Agriculture. We have arable land so have no business having challenges of feeding ourselves in Nigeria.

so true

few days ago, on my way to ... I saw men working/renovating the Port Harcourt vocational centre.
They told me that SIM intends to revive the centre and make it functional for the training of Rivers Youths.
I hope he revives Shanghai farm too.
