It was simply because they pushed forward most of their interest payments on debts as recommended by IMF which gave the Govt some breathing space and indeed the currency. IMF package also gives investors confidence normally to buy more of that local currency and bring in the dollars.

Nigeria can raise Eurobinds today at once and dollars would flood the market but this is like postponing the problem into the distant future and incurring more foreign currency denominated debts for the future.

What Nigeria would do is sell assets of NNPC, sell some electricity assets. sell the refineries and these talks are ongoing but are medium term solutions not short term solutions.

We need some short term solutions aside Eurobonds.

Nigeria would also need to do something about crypto because 56 Billion dollars from Nigeria went into crypto in 2022. We need to integrate crypto somehow.

Finally BDC's have to be reduced to only a few licensed ones at the airports. Naira cards should become fully functional for FX but with limits.

Well I don't know what they can do about the naira again for now except they monitor the increased allocations to Governors since fuel subsidy removal to see if they find their way to the parallel market for exchange of dollars.

But even that is the job of the media and EFCC to investigate. Who or what can save the naira at this rate? I simply don't know.

I warned against floating the naira even when Buhari was president because I know that while floating was good, there are structural issues and foreign investors wouldn't just rush in immediately because you floated.
