Dealer are exporting it to neighboring countries because their currency is stronger than our own at the moment so they are making a lot on each bag of cement, that leads to demand higher than supply in Nigeria hence the price increase
The same is happening to food at the moment, northerners are selling to neighboring countries
Exchange rate need to go down otherwise neighboring countries will start raiding Nigeria to get cheap products there by creating scarcity and price increase in Nigeria

Mista-man, what exactly is the point you are making?
Why are you just dancing around many points.??

I thought we were arguing about how the DOLLAR-BASED part of the production-line of cement became the major reason for the increased price of cement in the market..

How come you're noe talking about diesel again??
And even bringing GSK, and PZ, and bread-bakers, and pasta producers into the discussion.??

Did the price of bread and pasta rise to 300% within the last two weeks too (Just the way cement rose 300%)
We were arguing? I had no idea Mista-boy cheesy

The major raw material for the making of cement is mined here in Nigeria. The machines you mentioned is not always imported and workers to handle the machines are Nigerians.I can’t see any genuine reason why prices should increase by over 100%. Cement was once sold for 5400 few months back and now it’s over #12000.There is no bases to justify the increament.
The machines are manufactured in Nigeria i guess grin ... you clearly have never been to a limestone quarry .

Na Northern elites with their tools just to frustrate any government not headed by them.

That's why they were destroying farm lands of other zones, na only them can obtain license to build and own filling stations. These are key points that holds Nigeria, food, security & oil.

Is a long time planed something.
Oga you are a stacked illiterate and the bold also makes you a liar or a ignorant farm tool. Adenuga must be a northerner. Why am i even arguing with someone who can't tell the difference between "it's" and "is"?

shhh all these are silly excuses. One is one of the major factor of production in that sector is diesel and we haven't seen a major sharp increase lately.

You people deserve what is happening, running to give excuse for every silly increase just to say I no tell una?

Nigeria is for everybody I won't derive joy from it pain.

We produce garri here for years then all of a sudden the price keep jumping astronomically you will tell me it because of dollars.
Nigeria is the only country were the rules of both basic and complex theory of economy don't hold.

I know of someone who imports a hp laptop for 120k when dollar was 460k 2 years ago and he is still bringing same laptop for same price today when dollar is 150 because price depreciate over there as time goes on but when that laptops gets here people do sell for 270k infact as them year say dollar increase, they automatically increase their old stock. We are just too wicked as a people.
I said cost of production...the dollar issue is just a part of the cost of production. Nigeria is not for everybody sir, if you believe that then you will also believe the lie that all men are equal. cheesy

You spoke as someone who has the knowledge in cement production. I guess u work there or you have someone who works there. Another factor u did not mention is the scarcity of the product as a result of reduction in production capacities by the cement manufacturing companies which also contributed in pushing the price up within a short period, but I believe Government can do something to bring the price down.

Removal of fuel subsidy, hike in price of diesel which is sold for #1400/litre depending on area of purchase. a need to increase staff salaries to cushion the drastic effect of subsidy removal...... bad nature of most Nigeria roads which leads to incessant wear and tears. reasons for the rise in cement price like many other products are enormous.
This reasons are not cogent. With the way things are going, the petrol and diesel to be produced by dangote using both our barrels and the imported ones will be crippling. Dangote and the so called capitalist elites will be so dealt with by the masses very soon. Empty houses of politicians will become places if abode for people. The inflation is terribly stupid. In 1 week how can one justify increase of cement tby 100%, only in Nigeria that this kind of things happen...spits

Baba, you've NOT answered the question. OP is wondering why the cost of a nation's natural resource is this expensive to even its local market.

So you're telling me the cost of excavation and logistics is the major driving force behind skyrocketing prices? 🙄 Even to local markets?
Guy, these are beyond natural forces of macro economics, abeg.

When a nation headed by bloodthirsty Vagabonds-In-Power oils the wheels of a certain capitalist fool pretending to be a businessman, this is usually the result.

Nigerians aren't ready for development..
FG should allow importation of cement and watch how Dangote and co. will reduce their prices.

PBAT should not make the mistake of past administrations trying to protect some of our local investors.. most are animals in human skin and have no pity on economy of Nigeria, it's all about the excessive gain and how to capitalize on every situation to fleece Nigerians.

Cement that is produced from limestone gotten in Nigeria.. even the nonsense cement they are producing now isn't as quality as the ones we had in the past reason you see buildings collapsing here and there.

Is the price only affecting Just Dangote Cement?
Or it also affected all the other cement brands like Bua and Elephant.??
I also need this explanation. But it should be explained to me like am 7yrs.

Why would anyone working in Nigeria be paid in foreign currency?

Do Nigerias working in US paid in naira or Euro?

Are expatriate working in UK paid in dollars or yen?
Because in Nigeria anything goes. I guess you have not heard of consultants in NNPC and CBN earning in dollars before. Amosun earned same as a consultant under Diezani, it is illegal but it happens in Nigeria.
Your last question is actually dumb, Nigeria as a country has it's reserves in dollars because the naira is barely worth the paper it is printed on.

Dangote enjoys tax relief from the government. Limestone and other materials used for production is sourced locally and not imported. Cost of production alone is not enough for him to triple the price of his cement. It's funny how everyone blames farmers for hoarding grains and inflating prices for commodities but yet no one is talking about people like Dangote for doing same
Why don't you buy BUA cement?
Oh, it is even more costly.
Stop wasting your time spreading hate against the man

You are the biggest fool. Who thought he knows all when he knew nothing. With an estimated gypsum resource of about 8.5MT in Nigeria and a local production of 100,000 tonnes per annum Nigeria has the potential to meet its local demand in gypsum and therefore Government cannot justify its importation. You, Dangote, Bua and FG will never know peace. The pain and suffering Nigerians are facing will return to you and your families by the grace of God. Omo irankiran.
As foolish as you are, did you know the effect of your boss and his cohort greedy decision. Rent will skyrocket because to build now go be wahala, this will have multiplier effect on other things and the hardship level will surge. Tinubu and other past president who sold Nigerians to Dangote will have their children suffer the same fate by the grace of God. It took the foolish old man close to a year to review the minimum wage yet Nigerians are dying from this unending hardship they created by their greedy policies.

Its just Google algorithms doing nonsense and not only Nigeria alone, search for China or other countries and see Google bringing up someone wealthy from that country.

Behind every algorithm, there is a reality.
The country has deliberately done a lot for Dangote to flourish. Importation of some products were placed solely in his handsvas if he's the only business man in the country. The government has been pampering him and pretending we are operating capitalist society whereas he's the stooge they are using. He is immuned against every contrary decision. Do you know that while the ordinary man was groaning to obtain foreign exchange during the Buhari regime, Dangote was getting it constantly and at a subsidized rate for that matter?
Only the owner of Nigeria can be so favoured. And today, he's thanking Nigerians by selling cement at exorbitant rates

So cost of production has remained the same for cement manufacturers while everything else is on the increase?
Make una dey use una brain before making a comment abeg.
Cement production involves mining with heavy equipment that can only be imported as well as it's spare parts and paid for in dollars, those responsible for repairs are also expatriates who will not be paid in naira, add cost of diesel for running the factory at over 1000 naira per liter as well as importing gypsum and others then you will understand. Pay a visit to the quarry of any cement manufacturer then you will understand cement production is capital intensive.
As a miner I can categorically tell you we have gypsum in a very large quantity. Dangote dont import gypsum he has so many site for that
