The federal government through the ministry of works should rescind it's decision of using concretes on road construction ASAP
You got it. How many Nigerians that are building houses nowadays. The demand is likely due to this recent concrete road construction policy of the Federal government.

What is causing increased demand. Have Nigerians become so rich in the last 6 months that they are now buying lands and erecting buildings all over the place? Perhaps we should then be worried about land availability too as most lands would already have been sold and the remaining ones would then be sold at premium prices.

It was a policy on paper.

I don't know of any ongoing major road project that is causing shortfall in cement availability as we speak.

If the 2nd Niger bridge didn't cause supply drought, which road is causing the scarcity?

The cement cartel are not telling us the truth yet.

Oshodi-Apapa Expressway

It's just a policy
Even 3rd MB repair isn't using cement
Make Dem stop the lies.
All FG road projects with plan to use cement won't take 50trucks daily
A truck is 900bags.
They don't work 7days a week, cement plants works 24/7
Remember that cement concrete needs curing to move to another stage, so even if there is capacity, there is limitation as principle

Hear talk? What a criminal excuse! That's price gouging. Government should penalize them. Nigerian were thinking that the reason for the sharp increase was related to inflation or dollar scarcity. Which stupid increase in demand are they referring to? This is unacceptable plain and simple economic sabotage.

I have always said that all the increase in prices is due to man made scarcity. There is no way cement demand suddenly increased with nothing to show infrastructurally. How many people are building houses? All of a sudden, demand increased in February? Like you said,it's economic sabotage and the government needs to come hard on them by making a few examples out of some of them.

Cost of production

Where in the right up did you see them talking about cost of production? The manufacturers obviously didn't increase the prices. It's the cement cartel doing it. They are also smuggling cement out to sell to neighboring countries. The scarcity of food and cement in the country is man-made.

Dangote would export is product to neigbouring countries. Our farmers here in the north are all exporting there products to Niger republic. But all of us would now be frowning to government anytime they want to open the border. Some people will even be praising them for closing the border 😂. I think average Nigerians are greedy, there is nothing bad in competition between your neighbors. That border is not supposed to be close

Yet saboteurs are hellbent on exporting to neighboring countries thereby causing more scarcity at home.

Importing cement on the short run. But the issue about importing on the short run is that, it's going to be very expensive because of the high exchange rate.

We are not producing enough cement in Nigeria. We need more cement manufacturers in Nigeria

I think there isnt a shortage of cement. The major problem is that a small cartel is running the industry and is determing prices without recourse to demand and supply. The net has to be widened to entertain other potential players.

I am yet to witness buyers queing up for cement in nigeria likr they do for petrol.

I thought Nigeria was self sufficient in cement production that we even export to neighboring countries.

How has demands outstripped supply especially at this time when the few disposable income of the masses is plowed into buying of food?

This guy should please tell us another story!

They prefer to export to neighbouring countries because Cefa is stronger than Naira.

Government needs to really go tough

Oga, this is simple demand and supply that you were taught in secondary school. What do you expect what the demand overwhelmes the supply.

He said the association had alerted the Federal Government about the ramifications and probable outcomes of assigning the responsibility of producing and providing for the cement requirements of more than 200 million individuals to a select group with privileges.
And people were all blaming the current president, what has the past president done to avert this?

Cement manufacturers had to increase prices in order to pay their workers higher wages to refect increasing cost of living & to remain in business.

However the % increase in price was too much, but that's what you get in a monopoly.
So Govt needs to deregulate that sector & encourage more cement players.

No body is discouraging anybody..
The fact that there is a huge profit margin in cement is enough attraction for investors..

But somehow, they are not showing up..

It's left to the players to keep expanding..Dangote is building a new cement plant in Ogun state.. a company is building a 3 MTA plant in Kogi..

BUA just expanded their production capacity in Edo state..

Lafarge is doing absolutely nothing
