The Nigeria Police Force has said that a factional chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, was arrested for attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms, and other related offences.

The spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force Zone 5, Tijani Momoh, said that Abure was arrested on Wednesday afternoon in Benin City.

Momoh informed reporters that Abure and four other people had been detained due to a petition that was submitted against them.

He said: “I wish to confirm the arrest of the factional chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, and four others.

“It has to do with a written petition that was endorsed by the AIG Zone 5 from the office of the Inspector General of Police.”

He said an allegation of attempted murder was levelled against Abure.

Momoh said: “There are video clips, recordings of the petitioner being assaulted, being beaten when he came home last year to conduct ward matters.

“It is a case of attempted murder, conspiracy, illegal possession of arms and other related offences. They were also in possession of firearms; a short gun and three rounds of ammunition. Investigation is ongoing. They were just arrested today. More details will be provided later.”

I'm not holding brief for Abure but why should the police refer to him as a factional chairman of labour party, even when he has been declared the authentic chairman of the party by the court?

Why should the police allowed themselves to be used by politicians all the time. LP primary election to select their governorship candidate is today and their chairman was arrested on his way to supervise that election in Edo. It seems there is an unseen hands fighting LP secretly.

The police should take him to court as soon as possible and stop every media show of shame.
This is not Nigeria's pressing problem now

Arresting him at this time when they are preparing for elections exposes the police once more to be very unprofessional, mundane and willing tools in the hands of politicians.

See what Nigeria Police have reduced themselves to, in this country.

Pawns in the hands of politicians.. they even carry bags for politicians.

APC have tried every means on LP.

They even brought Lamidi Apapa...

What about Ganduje? What about Abdullahi Adamu?

Are they clean?

Did you see Abure in the video holding firearms?

The petitioner (from the Lamidi Apapa faction) has just wasted his money on the police.

It is the usual clear witch-hunting. Even Oshiomhole was dragged like a common thief during OBJ's time.

Time will tell.

How did the police come to conclusion that Abure is a factional chairman?

It is now very obvious that Abure arrest is the handiwork of APC. The court has already ruled that Abure is the legal and recognized chairman of Labour Party. I can see that the police is trying to discredit him by calling him the factional chairman of Labour Party.
